Somalia: Islamists Whip Women For Wearing Bras

MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Somalia's hardline Islamist group al Shabaab has publicly whipped women for wearing bras they say violate Islam by constituting a deception, north Mogadishu residents said Friday.

The Shabab are a terrible bunch and are a true scourge to all of Somalia. I hope their defeat occurs real soon.
With that said, I truly doubt the veracity of this story. Im sorry it just doesnt pass the sniff test for me. Think about it, Somalia is an off the beaten path country and any reporter with a computer can create a story and sell it as fact.

So what did the Shabab 'government' have to say about this, or is HP above actually investigating accusations and instead just reports what people say in the street?

BTW, The fact that the US govt says Shabab are Al Qaida proxies in Somalia, does that mean you can report anything anyone says about Somalia in order to justify the next American invasion?
