Madonna

NEW YORK — One of Madonna's New York neighbors says the superstar's loud music and frequent dance sessions are causing a commotion.

Karen George, of Manhattan, lives above Madonna in a building on Central Park.

She said in a lawsuit filed Friday against the building's co-op board that the Material Girl is using her apartment as a rehearsal studio, forcing neighbors to endure "blaring music, stomping and shaking walls," for up to three hours each day.

George complained about "unreasonably high-decibel, amplified music" and vibrations pouring through walls, ceilings and radiators.

The building's board says it has already threatened to evict Madonna.

Madonna's representatives didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

This is really pathetic on the part of Madonna's HORRIBLE neighbor. Whatever happend to just knocking on the door and asking, politely to have the music and stomping curtailed? Instead, these vipers SUE the woman? Incredible!

It is quite obvious that you do not have any of the facts before you "Lambie." If you read the lawsuit as filed, you would know that Ms. George:

1) politely and repeated requested both directly to Madonna and to the co-op board that the noise be contained or at least regulated;

2) that measurements had been taken over a period of time (months, in fact) determining that the volume of sound emanating from Madonna's apartment into Ms. George's was consistently unreasonably loud--and this after the above repeated requests to turn it down; and

3) that Ms. George only turned to filing the lawsuit after =17 months= of complete unresponsiveness on the part of her neighbor and the co-op board.

Aside from your own potentially slanderous aspersion on Ms. George and your predisposition to supporting your idol Madonna, you should know what it is your talking about before denigrating the person suing her.

Madonna is wealthy enough to afford a rehearsal space. It's kinda stunning that she would be so inconsiderate.

If it was the other way around and she had a neighbor who was making that kind of noise, she wouldn't put up with it for a minute.

Again, if you want quiet, leave the city. The police are not involved in this matter which means her noise levels do not raise to the level of criminal. Rather, the noise is simply annoying a tenant who whined to the coop board and sued them. I lived in a place where a tenant below me used to complain about me walking. No joke. Living in shared spaces means living with noise. For these people in Manhattan who can't stomach it, they clearly have the money to move into the burbs. They're likely from there anyways.

Funny you should mention that.

It is my understanding that Madonna has indeed complained about noise from another apartment (=not=, I repeat, =not= Ms. George's).

Paul Simon's song "One Man's Ceiling is Another Man's Floor" says it all, don't you think?

You'd be amazed how often noise comes up in Manhattan. It got a lot worse as the place gentrified more and more. Some various rich folk and celebrities moved into overly pricey condos above the old Knitting Factory, only to complain about noise from the place constantly. So, get that. They move into a place above a night club, and then complain about noise. It's how Manhattan has lost a piece of it's soul, in that people who are truly suburbanites have taken over the city and brought all their petty issues of entitlement with them.

The last time I was over there I warned Madonna about the loudness. She told me to be quiet and put on the teenage Puerto Rican boy costume.

I actually find people who move to Manhattan and then complain about the noise to be more annoying. If you want peace and quiet, don't live in a city. Neighbors make noise. That's just how it is. Note that this is a "condo board" matter and not a police matter.

Eris23:

See my comments above to Babooshka and Lambie. The fact is there =are= places in Manhattan where you can live reasonably free from noise. And until Madonna moved there, the building in discussion was one of them.

Huh? You got the wrong 'Tim', darling. If you're referring to Mariah Carey, I'd rather be deaf than subjected to her cat's chorus. Regardless, it doesn't make Madonna's tuneless pop sound any better.

In my Co-op you get warnings if you pass wind too loud . . . But can't we all just get along?
