KABUL -- Afghan President Hamid Karzai may not accept the results of a vote recount from the summer's general election, officials from his campaign hinted, adding a further twist to the already fraught post-poll political environment. On Sunday, his supporters began demonstrations against "foreign interference" in the elections.

Why continue to fight when it is perfectly clear this administration has decided to give up? Bring my son and all of our sons and daughters home NOW!

This is not a war of choice but a war of necessity.

Who said that?

Newsflash: The only reason you're in power is because of foreign influence.

If you can't stand on your own two feet, don't complain about the people holding you up.

Plus, your hat is stupid.

History doesn't work NAM??

The billions we pay "contractors" corporations who are in control of our country..(see health care)

Spending 1/3 billion on a jet that does not work??

We need to change the idea that we are the police of the world we are not and they do not want us to be.....would we put up with an occupying army not.....

What job is that, precisely?

I see you're not disputing the obvious facts I outlined for you earlier (despite what poor Shawn claimed - i think he might have a little bit of an obsession with you).

That's a good first step; next, let's work on your hopeless confusion surrounding the events that led to the worst foreign policy mistake in a generation and the difficulty this president faces in untangling the Gordian kno.t the last administration created in the ME.

Hint: cutting right through it is NOT an option.

If Obama was planning on waiting until the Afghan elections were over to decide on what to do in there then why did he give a major speech about it on March 27th?

Why didn't he just say we would have to wait until after the elections?

Why did he ask for an assessment?

This "waiting for the elections to be over" talking point is weak.

Not nearly as weak as using the tragic and ultimately pointless loss of Pat Tillman's life for political gain by fabricating "the truth".

We're probably lucky they haven't put everything under full mudaration. Seems like they love it. Why don't they say how many comments submitted and how many comments accepted and let us see how heavy handed they are getting? Of course, we all know there are certain individuals that you can't critique.

I wonder when they figure out many of us don't read any of the advertisements what's going to happen?

This is looking like the talking heads.....

How could any rational informed human want to continue this war?? Why did we go? WMD did we find them no.

Billions of our hard earned money more than enough to pay for universal health care for all and end suffering in US. But no we choose to throw it away paying corporations ripping us off. Just gave a religious fanatic another billion.

remember NAM?????

Occupiers lose wars.
Liberators win wars.

America needs to decide which one it wants to be. (I fear it thinks it's the latter but has become the former).

After 8 years of muddling along under Bush, we can only be occupiers.

If only Bush had done what Obama is now doing, i.e., creating a strategy.

Bush was so war lustful and hungry that he ran willy nilly into wars without any clear thought.

Grasping.

Obama ran on success in Afghanistan. He said he would put a plan together and get the job done. He said Afghanistan should be a major focus.

Don't blame us for his words.

He did not say he would get it done in 8 months after 8 years of muddling along.

And Obama also said:

* OBAMA:

"General McKiernan, the commander in Afghanistan right now, is desperate for more help, because our bases and outposts are now targets for more aggressive Afghan/Taliban offences."

"We're ... going to have to work with the Karzai government, and when I met with President Karzai, I was very clear that, 'You are going to have to do better by your people in order for us to gain the popular support that's necessary'." (October 7)

He had to wait until the elections were over to make a decision. Is that the new talking point?

Then why did he ask McChrystal for an assessment before the elections?

Seems to be. Cause, you know, if the new administration doesn't want us there then we're probably just going to end up going home.

This is a vital mission unless we meet a little resistance, or something.

I didn't name Iraq for a very specific reason. You folks just can't keep your eye on the ball. My point was primarily about the fact that Bush didn't keep heavy force in Afghanistan for a very specific reason.

=======

What folks can't keep our eyes on WHAT ball?

The people who are conversant with reality - that would be critics of the Ir.a.q fiasco - have continually demanded that the previous administration - and this one - get the job done in Afghanistan.

The luna.tics who decided to have an adventure in Ir.a.q not only took their eyes off the ball, they decided to play an entirely different game in the middle of a winnable w.a.r.

And here we are, 8 years later, back at square one.
