Washington Post:

The White House wasn't finished when she moved in, so she used the still-under-construction East Room to dry her clean sheets. Her ghost is said to walk out of the East Room with her arms outstretched as if carrying laundry. Sightings are often accompanied by the smell of clean linens.

Dolley Madison haunts a house on Lafayette Square. The Octagon House is haunted. A tourist photographed a ghost once at the Air and Space Museum. If you get hired to work at the Smithsonian Castle, don't be surprised if they tell you up front the place is haunted. Part of the Natural History Museum on the Mall was 'unquiet' at night, according to the security guards. The old Arts and Industries building makes the odd noise now and then at night. One of my co-workers claimed to have seen a ghost at the National Gallery of Art. One of the guards at the Freer Gallery told a co-worker of mine that they saw the carved wooden Temple demons (protective demons, not western evil entities) move about - and no, we don't know what the guy 'might' have been smoking. And, sadly, when I worked back at the Holocaust Museum for a summer back in the 90's I heard the security guards telling someone in visitor services about the funky stuff that happened there overnight and why they had to let one of the guards go as a result: he saw something and couldn't do his rounds anymore. DC is bubbling with funky activity.

Sounds like fun. As a pastor's daughter, I've lived in a few old parsonages I thought were haunted.

Sure.
Nixon used to have late night chats with Abe all the time.
But then, Nixon was a little spooky to begin with.

I like a good ghost story, especially during Halloween/October.

I wish Franklin and Eleanor were haunting the WH these days and paid a surprise visit to the current occupant.

Actually, FDR & Eleanor have ALREADY visited the WH, and they both advised our president to ignore people like naschkatze.

I wouldn't mind a conversation with either of these people.

I always think how great it would be to talk to some of the great minds, but honestly the conversation would problaby just go like this "so how's it going? Freed the slaves huh? That's cool! Yeah ... well gotta go."

You are so right...

I guess I would hope to be that cool as I'm conversing with a ghost. ;-)
