In-Q-Tel, the investment arm of the CIA and the wider intelligence community, is putting cash into Visible Technologies, a software firm that specializes in monitoring social media.

There seems to be a deep-seated misunderstanding amongst a lot of people in our country, and a lot of lawmakers.

You see, when 9/11 happened, the call for massive surveillance was supposed to be about surveilling terrorists and preventing terror attacks.

It was not supposed to simply be an excuse to crack open 1984 and start living it out.

There is neither need nor justification for this.

Al-Qaeda do not broadcast their plans on Twitter.
