What's Your Reaction?
Bush Motivational Speaker

Here's a surprising new tidbit for those wondering how George W. Bush is spending his time these days (besides using his blackberry and penning a memoir): motivational speaking!

Yes, according to getmotivated.com, (h/t TPM) W. will be speaking at the Get Motivated Seminar on October 26. The Seminar (costing $19 per office) describes itself like so:

The GET MOTIVATED Seminar is world famous for its energizing, action-packed, star-studded, fun-filled, spectacular stage show. CNN, 60 Minutes, USA Today, TIME, PEOPLE, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal all rave about it! This motivational mega-show packs more inspirational firepower than a stick of dynamite!

A strange but interesting choice for a man who 73% of Americans thought was subpar at his job of the past 8 years.

Bush won't be attacking that podium alone! Making appearances throughout the day are Rudy Giuliani ("America's Mayor), Zig Ziglar ("America's #1 Motivator") and Terry Bradshaw among others. A once in a lifetime experience? Not so. According to the website, Bush will be back on December 2nd for a second motivational business talk.

I tend to espouse moderately conservative policies, but I was never a fan of George (I'm for the filthy-rich) Bush, so here's a thought:

Instead of waterboarding, why doesn't the CIA force all terror suspects to attend this Motivational Show, and then have them watch the DVD, alone and non-stop, for 24 hours straight.

If they make it through, they would be released, but if they leave the room, they'd do hard time for a year.

Heck, after seeing the show they may just abandon their own jihad, realizing that it'll probably take care of itself!

The real story here is that these events are billed as "motivational seminars," when they are in reality a few motivational talks interspersed with a day of infomercials like you see on TV for get rich schemes couched in a quasi-pentecostal church service atmosphere.

That explains why the price of admission is next to nothing.

"This motivational mega-show packs more inspirational firepower than a stick of dynamite!"

That's a mighty peculiar metaphor. If the dynamite isn't lit then there's no motivation at all. If it is lit then the motivation would be to, as Monty Python would say, "Run away!!". Which is very apropos given the docket of speakers they have lined up for this thing.

What in the wide wide world of sports could Dubya say that would be motivational unless the presenters of this thing believe that most people harbor a latent desire to start a large costly elective war, ruin the economy of the country or maybe use the U.S. Constitution as toilet paper.

Oh I think he would be very motivational. Here's his main point: "I can say things like OB/GYN's are being denied the right to demonstrate their love on women nationwide" and they STILL pay me to speak at these things. Big money too! Now is you motivated?"

Maybe that stick of dynamite is that mysteriously absent WMD that the fuss was all about.

Glad Sock Puppet sorted that one out for us, finally.

Wonder how he feels when he sees Bill Clinton's 6-7 figure speaking fees?

As you said, Georgie; left to itself, the market will determine a fair price for everything.

I just watched OUTRAGE last night. It's about the hypocrisy of the closeted GOP and their outrage against all things GLBT. What it shows is how and why the GLBT community continues to get the short end of the stick in America. I will NEVER support the GOP willingly.

The ONLY think Bush will ever motivate me to do is vote for the Democratic party.

What a laugher! Bush as "motivational" speaker?! You must be joking.

I just wish that he was motivated to do more on behalf of the people of this country and our country's future when he occupied the WH instead of selling us down the river to the Special Interests -- the corporatocracy. What a terrible mess that he and his party left our country in. I'm surprised that people aren't throwing tomatoes at him when he speaks in public forums.
