As far as chasing away colds, I swear by this: The moment you feel that familiar, annoying scratch in your throat that signals the beginning of a cold, drink as much as you can. I make sure that I constantly have a cup of hot tea, chicken broth, water, or OJ by my side, and that I'm sipping from it all day long. 9 out of 10 times I'm able to chase the cold away before it progresses any further. Try it!

Garlic is great stuff.
It also is supposed to lower cholesterol. Though I am not a big believer in the cholesterol/heart attack connection. Interesting study in CNN today gives statistics state by state on heart attack, stoke, cholesterol. Not good correlation.
