What's Your Reaction?
Greta Van Susteren

Greta Van Susteren took to both her blog and her program Monday to fight back against claims made against Fox News.

Van Susteren wrote a long response on GretaWire to Jacob Weisberg's Newsweek article calling Fox News un-American.

Now, un-American?" she wrote. "First it was that Fox is not a news organization...and now? now Fox is un-american? Really, un-american??? (Tomorrow I fear I will be asked to register as a sex offender...what in the world happened last week while I was traveling in North Korea? What unglued everyone?)"

Van Susteren then made sure to explicitly state that her program, "On the Record," was not mentioned in the article because it is a legitimate news program:

Why did the Newsweek columnist/ reporter leave out ON THE RECORD at 10pm in his article? Simple. It does not fit his thesis that Fox is not a news channel and un-American. Apparently first he comes up with his thesis and then omits facts to support it. That in and of itself shows his bias -- that he is playing to his crowd. Oh my!

It is a claim she would develop further on "On the Record" Monday evening, airing examples of her hard news reporting including interviews with Hillary Clinton about North Korea, Henry Kissinger about Iran, Ehud Barak about Israel, and Evan Bayh about Iraq.

"It's monumentally stupid on the part of the White House, obviously," Tucker Carlson told Van Susteren. "It doesn't help them in the long-run, their whining...but it's also infuriating."

Van Susteren said she didn't find it "infuriating," but rather "silly" and "patently absurd."

"The thing that I think is disturbing," she said, 'is that you may have a beef with a person in an organization...but you don't indict the entire organization, the entire group. That is really the problem here. They may have a beef with Glenn Beck, but you don't attack Bret Baier."

There are only a few broadcasters at Fox that have the ability to be objective. Greta is decent sometimes. Shepard Smith is the best they have. I hope he leaves that fruit cake of an organization when his contract expires. Monumentally stupid states Tucker Carlson, the most bland, sad individual impersonating a journalist, I have ever seen. The difference in this battle is that the White House is taking on a single network and not the entire industry. They think people have forgotten that FOX correspondents were cheering out right for Bush at the Republican convention. They are so pathetic, they can dish it out but they don't seem to be able to take it.

Tucker, nobody is jumping all over Axelrod because when he said that Fox isn't news, everybody laughed and said, "It's about time somebody went out and said that!" Those of us who aren't shills for your network, or zombies of your network, don't think of what you are doing as news and we never have. There might be a news show or two, as Greta's mini-documentary of herself doing interviews attests, but on the whole Fox is all opinion all the time.

Fair and Balanced is just a slogan. If Fox actually attempted to be fair and/or balanced we wouldn't be having this conversation.

FOX Flashback: Greta Van Susteren shouldn't be casting stones
by John Aravosis (DC) on 10/21/2009 02:56:00 PM
I'm thinking of starting a new feature called "FOX Flashback," where we remember the outrageously unprofessional things FOX News and its hosts, both opinion and "news" hosts, have done over the years to prove that they're nothing more than the propaganda organ of the Teabagging wing of the Republican party.
In today's segment, we remember FOX's own Great Van Susteren, and her massive conflict of interest with then VP-candidate Sarah Palin, who just happened to be... what? A teabagging Republican!
So not only is a Scientologist reportedly one of Sarah Palin's top advisers, but the man is the husband of FOX News' Greta Van Susteren. And ThinkProgress says that not only did Van Susteren never reveal that her husband was a top Palin adviser, while Van Susteren was interviewing Palin on FOX during the campaign, but TP says that Van Sustern even did stories about her husband's work, without revealing her husband's involvement in it.
WWJJD, Greta (what would Jesus journalist do?) Van Susteren made the unfortunate comment last night that the White House's criticism of FOX's faux journalism didn't apply to her. Oh Greta...

So that mini-documentary she made of herself doing her job was a sham, then. I'm not surprised. This is Fox "News" after all.

So if you are able to show 3 minutes of news, you have proven that you're a news channel ...? This is what I would call "silly", Greta ... :-). Can we now talk about what Fox is doing the rest of the day?

I used to enjoy watching Greta's legal show before she turned into a little snot.
And had her nose fixed.

Tucker Carlson is one of the most bitter men in the network news business, the perfect choice by Greta for a piece like this.

I'll admit that On the Record is a news program(though a biased one at times), but just because a network has a few news programs doesn't mean that it is a news network.
By the definition of a news network that Greta is giving up there, Comedy Central would be twice the news network Fox News is. Glenn Beck is funnier comedy to me than half of the things on Comedy Central.
Weak argument.

If you swim a pool full of poop do not complain when people accuse you of bathing in the toilet. :)

Am I the only one who wonders how Greta was able to get back into the news business after her role as Mason Verger in "Hannibal"

The appropriate name for her network is "The Republican Party Talking Points and Spin on the FOX network".

http://www.relfe.com/media_can_legally_lie.html about faux noise and how they can embellish about any news they want to.Fox claims not to be a news station but an infotainment station only
Maybe Greta should look at this before she says she is a respected news place her own station sya it is not it is an infotainment station

the white house doesn't really need to go after Greta. she doesn't have any credibility to attack.
