Pat Buchanan has a post up today on WorldnetDaily, about the "Oath Keepers," the latest strain of extremist nimrods who have lost their minds over the fact that a candidate they don't like won an election, in America.

Just who the hell are these people? As Buchanan describes them, the "Oath Keepers" are "ex-military and police who repledge themselves to defend the Constitution, even if it means disobeying orders." "If the U.S. government ordered law enforcement agencies to violate Second Amendment rights by disarming the people," Buchanan says, "Oath Keepers will not obey." Good to know.

It's actually possible to read the first eight or so paragraphlets of Buchanan's piece without having any idea that he's doing anything other than making fun of the Oath Keepers. He compares them to the 9-11 Truthers and Orly Taitzy "Birthers," and seems to wryly note that Oath Keeper founder Stewart Rhodes is "destined for cable stardom." But then you glance back at the headline of the post -- "Traditional Americans are losing their nation" -- and read on, and the thrust of Buchanan's piece is pretty clear: SOMEONE NEEDS TO SAVE THE WHITE PEOPLE, WITH GUNS!

Referring to the white working-class voters in the industrial towns decimated by job losses, Obama said: "They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

Yet, we had seen these folks before. They were Perotistas in 1992, opposed NAFTA in 1993 and blocked the Bush-Kennedy McCain amnesty in 2007.

And now, they will be gunning people down, maybe, in the streets?

There is just no issue of the day that Buchanan cannot torture and wedge into his race-obsessed hole:

They see Wall Street banks bailed out as they sweat their next paycheck, then read that bank profits are soaring, and the big bonuses for the brilliant bankers are back. Neither they nor their kids ever benefited from affirmative action, unlike Barack and Michelle Obama.

Exactly. Why did the government step in to give billions of taxpayer dollars to Wall Street banks? Because of their blackness.

Anyhow, that's today's offering from MSNBC's veteran political pundit!

Pat may have reached the stage in life where rigid turns into fossilized.

Keep on stressing out Pat, it adds to your stress and better yet shortens your life span. So keep working yourself up to your grave, you'll do your country a big favor

Unfortunately, Pat Buchanan does serve a warped purpose. There are several million middle-aged and elderly white Christians who DO see their country "being taken from them". They have no sense of history, let alone a true sense of righteousness or a moral compass that would inform them of the wrongs leveled against women and non-whites in our country's history.

Buchanan is one of those "recycled" white men, who was attached to both Nixon and Reagan (and even argued that Reagan's was an "imperial" presidency), and who keeps being trotted out to maintain an illusion of opposition, not to the Democrats, per se, but in opposition to a changing ethnic and religious landscape. I vividly recall Buchanan's speech at the 1992 Republican convention and his "cultural values" speech which implored white America to "take back our country, take back our culture". He fits right in with the current crop of right-wing lunatics.

bujudude you are on point, if ever there was a time for prayer it is now. What we are now seeing is both historical and biblical. Since prayer has helped me my 51 years of life I will continue to use it in this crazy mixed up world. These Oath Keepers are a danger to themselves and others.

Their Philosophy is Slave Master Ready. My heart bleeds for those who find misery in Unity and delight in division. Oh My Heavenly Father where did we go soo wrong?

"They have no sense of history, let alone a true sense of righteousness or a moral compass that would inform them of the wrongs leveled against women and non-whites in our country's history."

This is absurd dude. We've had affirmative action policies in place now for 40 years and untold billions in welfare programs. I think their "righteousness" well is beginning to dry up.

And by the way, the only non-whites in this country who have a legitimate gripe about past wrongs are Blacks and to a lesser extent American Indians. Every other "person of color" in America is riding on the coattails of Black Africans who were brought here in slavery.

Silas, first of all "40 years of affirmitave action" hardly compensates for centuries of oppression. Secondly, the primary beneficiaries of affirmative action have been white women. And there are more white people on welfare than blacks or Latinos. Plus, there were harsh, puntative measures taken against many non-whites, other than blacks (the Chinese exclusion laws, for example, plus the internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII).

People like Buchanan will never accept that conservative, white, Christian males are not in control to the extent that they would prefer and constantly whine about "losing" "their" country.

Ronald Reagan put a UT, Clarence Pendleton, in charge of the Civil Rights Commission, who started the process of evicerating the department's original purpose. In fact, George W. Bush's choice to head the departement had to go on adminstrative leave after saying that he never hired blacks. Quotas are only legal if discrimination has been proven in a court of law, yet the bigoted blowhards like Pat Buchanan are always dredging it up as if it's actually being used now.

Pat Buchanan exemplifies the old white men affraid of change that are the face (and voice) of the republican party.

It never ceases to amaze me that republicans believe that somehow they are the only ones who have guns and know how to use them. Other people have guns too, they just don't consider them to be their lovers.

there are a real danger that the withe racist ignorant and lover of guns will become more frustrated and violent and if the state and the law permit this kind of hate armed groups to act free, i believed that in a near future they will provoked some kind of disruption or chaos, but if are a country of laws it will be controlled.
You could have a big, big problem if the state authority do nothing.

in that case the withe racist groups will start to think that they can do what they want. this will be a big mistake because the actual reality in the USA is not good for withe people.
They are not the majority in USA anymore and if the Blacks and Latinos decided that it is time to take action the withe people will have a big problem because they are the minority in USA now.

the withe racist hate groups must be careful because the Blacks and Latinos can shot guns too and they have more people and more power.

Didn't John Oliver say that the fact-checkers at CNN were the goat keepers?

But seriously, "oath" also means profanity expressed in anger.

That sounds about right with the Buchanan crowd. Keep up the good oath, boys.

It seems to me LBJ officially took Pat Buchanan's America away from him over forty years ago. Can someone yell this into his ear until he acknowledges it?

Maybe then he can stop talking about it and enjoy his latter years like any bitter curmudgeon would.

LBJ's Great Society is an utter failure. People are waking up to that fact. That's Buchanan's point.

Once a BIGOT, always a BIGOT. These are the people that Black men in the 60's, 70's, 80's have been complaining about regarding equality and everyone thought these patriotic Black men who served in the military were paranoid!

Pat's and most other senior white males are Bigot losers who can't handle their problems!

Gotta feel sorry for Pat. He can't even emigrate to South Africa anymore, now that they've desegregated.

...and the days are long past when several South American countries would have sheltered someone of his ilk, no questions asked.

Who in their right mind would emigrate to S.Africa today? Whites are fleeing that place by the millions.
