What's Your Reaction?

William Walsh, 42, believes that his innovative pizza box invention, known as the GreenBox will radically change the way we consume pizza.

The top part of the GreenBox rips off to become four plates, while the bottom part folds in half to become a smaller box good for about four slices of leftover pizza. In addition to reducing the waste generated by paper plates, the GreenBox is 100% recyclable.

Walsh is currently trying to market his idea. Check out this video demonstration of the GreenBox!

Yeah, it's cool but it basically makes the entire box unrecyclable. By using the top as plates you'll be getting grease all over the only part of the box that you can usually always rip off and recycle. Fail.

Pizza boxes
The most common pizza box is a square cardboard box in which a pizza is packaged for take-out or pizza delivery.
Pizza boxes are often emblazoned with the logo of the pizza company from which they come. However, some smaller restaurants will use boxes with a generic image.

Pizza boxes are not accepted by most municipal recycling programs because food is often stuck to the box itself.

Boxes are thus commonly thrown away with household garbage; a more environmentally friendly disposal option that has been proposed is a form of backyard composting for pizza boxes, but it has been found that even newspapers if left in sections can take 20 years to decompose.[8]

Original designs for pizza boxes were patented since at least 1968

I thought this was a great idea the first time I saw this.... more than a year ago. At the time the person said they were going to have a meeting with a large pizza chain. I wonder what happened to that?

It's a good idea, but certainly not a new one. College students(and others without plates) have been tearing up pizza boxes to use as plates for decades.

This looks silly at first glance, but considering the number of pizzas consumed every day in the US, a box that can be shredded and composted (you can't recycle a pizza box with grease on it) is a good idea.

Many Canadian cities have "green bins" that go into massive city-wide compost heaps... they even take cat litter. Saves lots of $ on trash and creates free fertilizer for parks. They've had the program in Toronto for a year or two now.

Cat litter?? Jeez, now there's a recipe for disaster. Cat feces has come of the most virulent strains of bacteria or virus that can harm humans.

Well, deja vu once, pizza boxes that make pizza plates are not new, look at just one example (or do your own search): http://www.pizzabox2000.com/

Gosh, deja vu deja vu, pizza boxes that make smaller pizza boxes are not new, look at just one example (or do your own search): http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20080197177

I don't know how green this pizza box is, but it sure seems to recycle a lot!

I am entirely not a pizza eater, but this is clearly way cool, and Costco-worthy for both the take 'n bake or cooked options!
