What's Your Reaction?

The capacity of Democrats to cast Republicans as a party without solutions has, to a certain extent, allowed for progress on a whole host of fronts - not least of which has been the maintenance of an advantage in generic public opinion polls.

And as party leadership inches closer to getting health care reform through Congress, and as the 2010 congressional elections approach, the charge that the only agenda Republicans have is to undermine the president's, seems likely to only intensify.

On Friday, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee put out a web video that accuses Republicans of "wasting 1,000 hours in the Senate" through procedural rules and other parliamentary ploys. The spot - reminiscent of the notorious Mac v. P.C. television commercials - casts the GOP as a stuffy white-collared tycoon who "just kind of wants to see [Dems] fail."

"Ideas are hard, blocking them is easy, especially in the Senate," the Republican says, "We won't get caught as long as [Americans] are confused by all the noise and misinformation we throw out there."

It's a relatively traditional web ad in what will, undoubtedly, be a series of spots that the two party committees run against each other. And where exactly the DSCC gets its 1,000 hours figure isn't entirely clear. But the charge is not entirely impotent. And the betting money among Democratic strategists is that if the party can, actually, get a health care bill out, and if no single Republican actually votes for the measure, the 2010 equation changes significantly in their favor.

The capacity of Democrats to cast Republicans as a party without solutions has, to a certain extent, allowed for progress on a whole host of fronts - not least of which has been the maintenance of an ...

I would like to accuse all of Congress, that is to say both parties of wasting the last nine months and then some. Congress in my view is a bunch of liars, thieves, traiters and inside traders and lets not forget drunks that are corrupted to the highest office. How many in Congress today could say I pledge my life, my fortune, and my sacred honor? None? One? Two? These people do not work for us, they enslave us, and lable it what is good for the majority. I suggest we cut their salaries by 90%, much like the bankers that got bailed out.

The Republican (or Conservative) philosophy is "Heck with the people, the only thing is power...get it and hold on to it, no matter what you have to do or become."

Republicans bring ideas to the table that are almost always voted down without even discussion, in committee. The DimLibs said that things were going to be discussed, and bipartisan options addressed. Instead, they are nothing more than what they have been complaining about for years. Perhaps if these ideas were actually discussed by DimLibs, things would actually be different?

They have a majority in both the Senate and the House and a Democrat in the White House and all they can propose are ideas that the American people clearly do not want. The DSCC is doing nothing more than trying to draw attention away from their own ineptness.

Please cite what the 'bipartisan options' to be discussed were/are. Also, what ideas are there? Tort reform / tax cuts for corporations, that's all I hear. Tell us all what republicans have in mind to actually reform healthcare in a meaningful way.

there you go two of them

tort reform will allow incompetent doctors to murder patients with ease

tax cuts for corporations will allow even more money to be concentrated with the super rich. this will allow even fewer people to have access to health care. people will die younger. thus saving social security and medicare.

There are a few mentioned in this article that took me 18 seconds to find.

I have about 5-6 more saved up on my own server if you would like them as well.

Read about a subject before you come to the grown-ups table.

what a waste of our money their salary is. The GOP has nothing but a bunch of fringe crazies speaking for it. Its leaders are jokes, Limbaugh? Palin? Is this really the best they can do?? pathetic really. The party is irrelevant and are now just in the way. not much progress when all you have is a bunch of hateful goons in your party. certainly no brilliance, no leadership, just complain complain complain thats it.

Only 1000 hours? That seems like an ultra-conservative estimate.

I agree and have been saying for awhile that if Dems can get things passed and the Republicans have stayed on the sidelines, it'll look incredibly bad for them in 2010. Even if the Health Care package isnt what people want, it reflects badly on the Republicans for not having a plan of their own to debate.

If the stimulus ends up creating jobs between now and mid terms, itll look especially worse for the GOP if theyve done nothing since the beginning of Obama's term.

Nows the time the GOP has to come up with ideas that contrast Obamas. Its an ideological war, and when the only plans being proposed are Democratic in origin, the Democrats are going to win the debate in the end when it comes up to vote.

Contrary to popular belief, this isn't lost on the republican/conservative/libertarian crowd. Even the most rightwing of websites like RedState and Townhall are seeing a schism in that debate. Many on the right are fed up with the party of "no" and don't see obstruction as the badge of honor the republican officials want their constituents to believe. Instead, they see a GOP woefully bereft of any solutions outside of 'tax cuts'. The party as it stands, has been rendered totally irrelevant by their own hands.
