What's Your Reaction?

Here's a funny video from Media Matters that documents the deep connection between the fictional concerns of the real Glenn Beck and the real concerns of the fictional The Office character Dwight Schrute. At issue here, is OnStar, a by-subscription feature in modern cars that provides drivers with GPS enabled navigation, remote diagnostics, and on-board security services that can assist drivers in the case of an auto accident. Naturally, Glenn Beck worries that this will help the "government" to "know where you are in your car all the time" and even put a "microphone" in your car, to broadcast socialist propaganda! To which Dwight Schrute adds: consider the spy satellites!

[WATCH]

Of course, Glenn Beck isn't thinking BIG enough! Why doesn't he warn his listeners about the dangers of the Sontaran Strategem?

They are watching you, Glenn! They can't get enough of you! You are so fascinating to them, that the FBI has given up monitoring terrorists, white collar criminals, and the mafia. They spend all of their time now checking your car, and listening to hear your next weird pronouncement.

You should read "Them" by Robert Heinlein, or watch "The Truman Show". Maybe the whole world is a just a fake, set up so they can watch you. All the time.

Seriously, Glenn, it's called a narcissistic personality disorder.

wow, for a guy who claims to be a patriot and love America, he sure doesn't have many nice things to say about it.

...and were silent to supportive when actual illegal snooping and wire tapping activities were in full swing, personally enacted by their Republican president.

So we were wrong about Beck, he doesn't just make this stuff up. He uses ideas from more successful shows. Do you think he knows that The Office is not really a documentary series?

I hope he credits the script writers whose work he uses.

Have you ever actually listened to Beck? Of course he doesn't know the difference! He can't even get to the studio without help for crying out loud! LOL

I just love these nutsos who swear the government isn't capable of handling a public option health care system but is completely certain that they pull of complicated and sneaky conspiracies.

Or that they themselves (the nutjobs that is) are important enough for the gov't to give a hoot about where they OR their car are!!!

Beck gets to play on both sides of the street as long as he can make a questionable connection between the two....and he doesn't really care...it's ratings...ratings...ratings!!

How many times did this hypocrite complain about the Bush Administration's warrant-less wiretapping??? I'm gonna go with none.

But you see, that's different, because anything Bush does was by definition to keep us safe.

Everything Obama does is to imitate Chairman Mao. Once you understand Becky's logic, it all makes sense.

I sometimes wonder how much of Becky's rants are stuff he actually believes and how much of it is him just being a "rodeo clown" whom "only idi0ts" should believe.

So you don't see the control elements of carrying transponders and the whole on-star thing is just a loaded gun waiting to go off in our faces. LOL I won't use any of that stuff. If something does happen in this country where martial law is declared for WHATEVER reason....you are going to want to be as far away from that technology as possible. I don't like the control aspects and that is why I don't use them. But, at least we have a choice, for now.

I love my OnStar. It has given us directions in strange towns, and I never get lost now. It even finds places when you don't have the right name or the address since you actually talk to someone and can discuss what you want. It's also very comforting knowing that if we had an accident where we couldn't talk, they would call the police and emergency responders. I'm not paranoid, and I hardly think that martial law would somehow be using OnStar as some sort of way to make people do stuff. After all, you would have to actually be in the car for them to do anything like they are imagining, and no one is in their car 24/7. In fact, most of the time we are not in our car. This whole premise is absurd.

Well, I hope you don't have a cell phone then. Those things constantly bounce signals off every cell tower you go by. The government can use that to triangulate your location wherever you have service.

The basic flaw in the conspiracy theory about Onstar is that it's only available on certain models. If the government was planning on using to seize control of every car on the highway during martial law, they'd have to make it mandatory in all vehicles. It's not much of a conspiracy if people can just choose not use the technology.

If the government decided to declare martial law, they wouldn't have to resort to OnStar to find us.

Every watch V for Vendetta? Might help you out a little.

I've wondered that too. I think he has conservative values, but he appeals to paranoia relentlessly. He's found his niche. I think he's just dishonest.

I don't think he has any values. He's a complete fraud who puts these paranoid rants out there because it gets him ratings.
