Home sales in the Hamptons--Long Island's beach oasis for the rich and famous--are making a comeback. Sales rose 32% during the third quarter from the same time last year, according to report released Thursday.

Reports about the health and wealth of real estate are not to be trusted. Myths of improvement are propagated by the real estate industry whose agents are desperate and holding on to a fantasy that the junk they're pushing still has value, that the downturn is only temporary, that any moment now things will get better. This kind of fantasy only creates a worse climate because the product doesn't sell for its true value. People won't sell for the hope of a turn around, and others won't buy because they know the asking price is ridiculous. Also, we're talking about a huge unemployment populace and even if people have jobs, they're reluctant to make long term commitments. Get real, real estate agents.
