Marc Lamont Hill

Last week HuffPost reported that liberal Fox News analyst Dr. Marc Lamont Hill had been fired. The news was announced by News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch during a shareholders meeting after Murdoch was asked about Hill's "reputation of defending cop killers and racists."

There has been some speculation about why exactly Hill was let go -- including, it turns out, from Hill himself. During an interview with conservative radio host Steve Malzberg, Hill revealed not only that he had no information on why he'd been fired, but that he'd learned of the news from a Google alert (h/t Think Progress).

HILL: Yeah I mean it's an interesting thing. I wish I could give you a great deal of information that I don't have a lot of information because I wasn't given a lot of information. To date, Fox News Channel hasn't given me any information as to why. ... I'm just a little puzzled. [...]

MALZBERG: First of all, you told me you found out when you got a Google alert, so I mean, did anybody eventually call you from Fox and tell you that you were fired?

HILL: Yeah I eventually - I got a Google alert at 11 o'clock [a.m.] that it had been announced that I'd been fired. After that, I guess someone followed up later in the day, you know because I was sort of trying to figure out what was going on. ... I found out that it was true but other than that I don't have any other information. ... I haven't had any thorough conversation with anyone.

Those who say that Fox News is an arm of the Republican Party while defending networks such as MSNBC and CBS as being "objective news networks" are laughable. They are nothing more than the Fox News of the left and to say they are not is just plain denial. At least Shepherd Smith didnt put his career and credibility on the line just to have the chance to embarass the president. Right Dan?

This is all very interesting, since Dr. Hill was on The O'Reilly Factor last night.

FOX is rude to everyone who is not "one of them", so this poor dude had two strikes against him.

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:27 PM on 10/25/2009

And you think that every other news organization are not rude to conservatives? Give me a break. If someone so much as mentions that they believe global warming is due to natural variances in our climate, they will be chastized and run off the set. If anyone says they are Pro-Life, they will get the ax immediately. Bernie Goldberg was fired from CBS after 29 years for stating that he believed that the media slanted to the left!!! The double standard on the left is sickening.

Honestly, Marc, they never felt you were worth their time. And after watching a few of your commentary on the O'reily Factor--I can't say I blame them.

Fox is now a Media Wing of the Republican Party

The truth is that Roger Ailes and the right wing TOP Dogs have figured out a way to beat the Democrats by having Fox News and Web based Fox nation become the slick media arm of the Republican Party and junk yard dog for conservatives.

They accomplish many goals by doing this.
1. They have managed to blunt the immense popularity of the 1st black president and drag him down in the polls by ginning up negative stories and then baiting the other media to cover. This works!
2. They get almost 100% viewership of the conservatives and rightwing and the Republican Party because the show reinforces all of their beliefs and conservatives love to hate liberals. This works!
3. All of the rightwing authors and pundits have lucrative gigs and TV spots to promote their books up on the best seller lists be selling to each other and for sending out books to raise money. This works
4. By being a news organization yet promoting anti government and anti Obama Tea Parties and Town halls, they swell their viewership, driving up ratings while still being able to push back against democrat's criticism by using the 1st amendment argument. This works!
5. President Obama and the democrats have not figured out a way to combat this new paradigm with a major global news organization essentially becoming the lobbyist for the Republicans. This Works!

fox stories about acorn unfourtunatly appear factual.fox reports that van jones is a radical communist. van jones calls himself a communist.valery jarrett was named in the top ten most corrupt in chicago.carrol browner was a registered communist party member until called upon by obama to serve in the administration.obama surrounds himself with commies and nutjobs.fox did not have anything to do with who obama hires.if it was not for fox news we would not know the extent of communist intrusion on a free american people.

And MSNBC, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, the NY Times, LA Times, Chicago Tribune, Atlanta Journal Constitution are the media wing for the Democratic party.

They accomplish the following goals by doing this:
1. They failed to properly vet Obama while he was running, thereby hiding his relationships with nefarious characters such as William Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Michael Pflegler, etc from the American people.
2. They fail to question the record spending which is putting our country into even more debt, the failure of Obama to commit to the war in Afghanistan (either send troops or get out) and the government taking over private companies
3. They fail to question the president as to his relationships with shady organizations, or call him out on him for villainizing the insurance companies while making back alley deals with the equally wealthy and powerful drug companies.
4. Commentators such as Keith "I hide in the fetal position under my desk" Olbermann and Chris "I get a woody thinking about Obama" Matthews openly just reinforce the hate that liberals have for conservatives.
5. During the tea parties, which thousands attended, the MSM under-reported the turnouts, sent correspondents who were obviously unnerved and upset by the protests to cover them and dismissed the legitimate concerns some have as crazy right wing nut jobs.

The media in this country is 100% behind Obama, save Fox, and will put out whatever message he wants them to.

As someone who works in tech industries where it's not uncommon to receive a superlative performance evaluation one day, and then be met at the front door by a pink-slip wielding security guard the next...

Welcome to reality. People who're shocked when their corporate employers betray them remind me of the 19 year old girl who went alone to a frat party, got drunk, took her shirt off, and passed out on the floor. Certainly I'm sorry for what happened, but I confess my curiosity far exceeds my sympathy.

What were you expecting?

yeah it's just protection for corporations in cases that have political motivations behind them and no other real performance, attendance or some other good reason behind them. Politics plays a huge role in corporate America. Who you know. Not what you know or how hard you work.

Somehow, I'm not surprised that Fox would fire Mr. Hill without the courtesy of an exit interview - not even a phone call but via Google Alert.

Agreed. While I am an avid MSNBC fan, I have noticed that there is very little "color" on the station. Tamron Hall is about it. Whatever happened to Carlos Watson?

ALL the cable news networks padded their ranks with African American pundits during the 2008 presidential campaign beginning around the time of the Rev. Wright saga and Bittergate.

And of note .............. Most of the surge of African American pundits were right leaning republicans.

It was in an effort to be able to criticize the then Senator Obama and his campaign without being labeled racists ............ After all black on black bashing is considered acceptable.

After the election the "surge" ended, with a "sprinkling" of still mostly right wing republican leaning African Americans remaining................. They still needed the black on black bashing of now President Obama when needed.

But the rethugs went one step further and put in place a black RNC chairman to do their daily dirty work, which marginalized the AAs on FAUX NOISE ............ With Steele in place they weren't as much in demand anymore.
