Ok, this makes me quite upset to read these comments about this woman. She is NOT a STRIPPER. Pole dancing is does not consist of walking around the pole and shaking your ass. If you want to see that go to the strip clubs where crack head, lesbian chicks are who all they want is your money. As a woman that does pole dace, pole dancing is a art. It takes a lot of endurance, strength and confidence to do what these woman can do. Before any of you say something negative about pole dancing, why don't you try doing something on the pole. I bet you won't even be able to get half way up the pole. And for the person that said about the things she is wearing isn't proper, she is wearing the proper attire for this SPORT. She is not wearing a G string or some crap like that. In order to be able to stay on the pole, skin has to touch the pole. Some moves like, for example, the jade split, the upper inner thigh has to be able to touch the pole to hold you up. Pole dancing is actually being considered to be added to the Olympics because it is just as difficult and complicated as gymnastics for instance. Before you trash talk about something, do your research. It is not the 1800s, this is the modern age and things have changed for pole dancing.

I wasn't sure what to expect...but, after seeing these remarkable photos of remarkably athletic women suspended in time and in mid-air, I am impressed.

I agree with others here that this competition owes lot to gymnastics and the defiance of gravity. I like to think of this pole as a vertical ballet barre.

For the record, I am a 60 year "young" woman who would love to come back in my next life looking like these gals. (Hubby would agree!)

I go along with a lot of stuff and I am 56. I have always been cautious about complaining about "the kids today," because every generation gets it. But, I am wondering something. We have rock groups and female singers who wear stockings, garter belts and lingerie in the most provocative way that they can make it, we wear lingerie as clothing, and we make a sport of pole dancing which is about stripping. I like kids, I want them to have fun.....but, doesn't something need to be left to the imagination? A woman with self-esteem, it seems, would not want to show it all. Take Meghan McCain. I was heavy and died blonde hair....nothing wrong with that. But, I resorted to showing more in order to get attention and compensate for my obesity. When women show more are they compensating for something? I am asking, not judging. I'll stop here.....

Pole dancing might have BEEN about stripping, but it looks to me like it's now (at least as done here) gone the way of gymnastics. There doesn't seem to be a lot of provocative dancing here (how would one know just by still shots), but more athletic sort of stuff, judging by the physical contortions and the muscles on some of these women. I don't think wearing skimpy clothing is compensating; I think it's showing what you have and what you can do with it, and that can't be done encumbered with layers of clothing, just as in gymnastics.

They all look very fit but the lack of proper clothing makes it not very olympic like. If I was young again I would try the pole fitness regiment (though with porper exercise attire) it seems to work very well. Since I am clumsy I would also wear a helment in case I slipped too much and bang my head..

Some of you need to calm down. Nothing worse here than Cirque du Soleil.

As a pole dancer fan I have to ask the obvious question. Why are they wearing cloths?

Nothing scary here. That terms like scary and frightening are even used in regard to this is the scary part. I agree that these women are athletes. I will criticize them when I can do better. Which will be never.

I'm hoping it's meant in "how the hell is she able to hold on to the poll upside down 6 feet off the ground" rather than any other way.
