Public Option

ABC News:

The public option. The idea was believed to be dead. Liberals wanted it, but Senate vote counters insisted it simply could not pass the Senate. The dynamic, however, has changed. The public option may be back from dead.

I am told that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is leaning toward including the creation of a new government-run insurance program -- the so-called public option -- in the health care reform bill he will bring to the full Senate in the coming weeks.

Democratic sources tell me that Reid -- after a series of meetings with Democratic moderates -- has concluded he can pass a bill with a public option.

Senators and Representatives should take calls from people outside their district because their votes impact the country

perhaps Senator Reid has found a way to cover his buns for re-election while letting this slip by the obstructionists on behalf of big pharma, big med, big insurance ...

what ever the reason, if true, will be a truly helpful change in the political landscape on this issue

It helps if you're not jumping up and down, screaming "Woot!"

Are you using Firefox? I am, and I'm not having a problem. Internet Exploiter might be the cause. Unless, of course, you're using some other browser software.

At this point, I don't care. It'll take years to refine, improve, etc. Just like everything else.

And that's fine as long as our lawakers are actually willing to roll up their sleeves and do the work. So far I don't see any indication that they are. They'll pass a bill that's reform in name only and then congratulate themselves for months afterward.

'Co-President' Snowe is warning Reid about the PO. Enough of the wooing!! Me thinks the
lady doth protest too much apparently basking in her attention. By vote or cloture.. she'll be relegated to relevance of Blagojevich!

For those making phone calls to reps outside your district (Ladynaga), Rep. Weiner will take your call and he's tracking zip codes from all over the country to make the case that it's not just east/west coast libruls who are in favor of Medicare for Everyone.

202-224-3121
House switchboard--they'll get ya there.

Go!

Weiner's a good guy, and I admire what he's doing. Unfortunately, health care reform--when it assumes its final shape--is not going to resemble what he and a majority of Americans want.

Consider this: it's been proposed since the 1930s. If it actually happens, it'll be the result of 70-some years of endless striving. Even if it's not what we want, we must never give up. If we refuse to be silent, and refuse to go away, eventually they're gonna have to give us what we want. We shall overcome!

All going according to plan this is pretty much the state I envisioned when I first understood the nature of the beast we faced in getting this into law. Strong PO in House, otherwise good bill in Senate with the words "public option" in some form, merged version that comes out with a good (though not best) PO in place ready to be strengthened at a later date. Now, with the opt out proposal a few weeks ago I see an even stronger version of the PO in the Senate than I even originally thought. Keep up the pressure folks, we're winning.

The country is losing, this has basically been tried in several states. One was Tennessee, and it was a disaster.

When you have national-scale health insurance/provider conglomerates, even states don't have a lot of negotiating leverage, especially when it's often true that there's only ONE health care insurer/provider in many towns

You did a lot of legwork for everyone here, Thanks.

If you didn't see my other post, I did call Weiner's office and spoke with one of his people. People need to go to his website http://countdowntohealthcare.com/ and sign the petition in favor of P.O.
They also ask that we contact our Reps again and ask them to support an Amendment from Weiner in favor of single payer.

Fired Up!
Now Go!

If there is an opt out clause, will all those states that opted out of the Stim funds want to

Oh wait, Those governors took the funds after they were against them, didn't they.

I wonder how many Southern states would opt out -- or at least talk about it -- just out of pure spite for Obama and Democrats...
.... and, ironically, they're probably the states that most need health care reform...

Very few of the politicians seem to really want the public option, their first concern is not us, unfortunately.

We need to change their thinking.

Enough with this counting votes countless time!! The time has come to RAM the PO through!!!
President Obama needs to take a page out of LBJ's playbook. Greet Co-President Snowe and the Blue Dogs before the entire WH press retinue, with cameras rolling. Just as LBJ did when the weak-kneed or dissenters came to learn when they were exposed: The People are the government. A seat can and will be pulled out from those who try to dance us!!!
