Alan Grayson: It's Hard For Me To Listen To Cheney Speak, He's Like A Vampire

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 03/18/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 03:25 PM ET

Thursday night on MSNBC, Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) told Chris Matthews that he has trouble listening to former Vice President Dick Cheney speak because of the blood dripping from his mouth.

"By the way, I have trouble listening to what he says sometimes because of the blood that drips from his teeth while he's talking, but my response is this: he's just angry because the president doesn't shoot old men in the face," Grayson said. "But by the way, when he was done speaking, did he just turn into a bat and fly away?"

While Grayson is only one of many to pounce on the former Vice President's "dithering" statement, the famed congressman still managed to deliver what was perhaps the most colorful reaction to the matter.

I wish Grayson had chosen different words. I get that he's joking and I totally agree with the sentiment behind his words but save the jokes for your next visit to the Colbert Report. You don't want to do anything to damage your credibility. When you eloquently speak about the millions dying from a lack of healthcare you don't want to be dismissed as the guy who called Cheney a vampire. There is plenty of substantive grounds to attack Cheney on on this issue, being glib wasn't the best way to try and get your point across.

I admire Alan Grayson. He tells it like it is, and never dithers. This is what is desired at a time like this when people are dying both at home and abroad by the situations created by our republican politicians. I have to agree with him that under the unwavering leadership of Rep. Nancy Pelosi the House is all set to fight for the cause of the healthcare reform with the Public Option.
Coming to Cheney, Cheney was not the brightest light even in his younger years as seen by his educational records. He could not cut the mustard in Ivy League institutions so he quit, just after a few months. Then came the years of oxygen deprivation of his brain from his heart problems. Now the aging factor is catching up with him. Even if he was half as smart as he thinks he is, we still have to disregard his assertions. Grandpa should be given a toy BB gun and asked to play war games in a remote unpopulated wilderness.

I have a real problem with Grayson being in Congress , He should be in the Senate so he and Al Franken can show Senate Democrats what a SPINE looks like , who knows maybe a few senators will get a SPINE IMPLANT during one of there many vacations during the year and start getting things done for the people . I would like to se Al Franken as Senate majority leader and Grayson as senate whip, wouldnt that be something

A funny bone maybe, but not a backbone. Vampire jokes are not the way to win allies.

Who the heck wants Dick and his cronies as allies? Go Grayson!

Alan Grayson is extraordinary. No one has stood up like him, in the past few weeks, to speak as openly and honestly about the ignorant demagogery and irreparable damage caused by the republican party.

Ring-ring: clue phone! Dick Cheney is using unrelated media coverage to pre-sell his soon to be released book. At the core of Cheney's rhetoric you'll find dollars and not political philosophy. Lets get real!

I understand Grayson’s outrage over the GOP, they have deteriorated into a party of obstinate resistance for resistance sake. As a former member who finally left the party because my liberal leanings on social issues such as the unconstitutionality of DADT, DOMA, wiretapping, etc and the GOP’s forgetting what fiscal conservatism actually is, I like seeing a Democrat stand up to them.

However I think the timing may be ill advised as this only serves to agitate when every vote and call to our representatives counts. We’re finally, finally close to HCR and we need it with the public option. There are fiscal conservatives such as myself with liberal leanings and many are on the fence, close to crossing party lines. (I refer to myself as a quasi-tr0ll)

When this passes, the Democrats will need some GOP support in some form; this will be the largest piece of legislation since Medicare and as with any change of this size there will be initial issues. Without any GOP support, the blame for any issues will fall solely on the left and provide the GOP with the opportunity to cry “I told you so”. (Actually it will be more like “I refused to listen to my constituents and help in any way to pass a bill to provide low cost health care while still accepting lobbyist contributions. Oh, and I told you so.”)

I respectfully disagree with the last part of your post. The GOP will never vote for HRC. They are doing every thing they can to stall, water down or defeat reform. It has to be done without any "help" from the party of NO.

P.S I don't think you are a troll because your arguments are lucid and thought out.

I understand you argument and your assessment of why they need GOP support, but I would have to agree with filo...they are not going to get it. Even if they did, there will be problems as with any legislation and the GOP will say "I told you so" no matter what degree of GOP support is given or not given. It is time to simply begin governing and making things better and let the GOP begin to understand that they need to share in that improvement rather than hope for an opportunity to say I told you so.

Delay means death.
That says it all for so many Americans!
who have NO insurance, or are under-insured.
Under Insured, means you pay more and more for your medical Insurance,
to pay higher and higher deductibles,
to be denied when you are sick.
Delay means DEATH GOPers!

I cringed when I saw this on TV. Kind of reminded of what Michele Bachman would say. Just a little over the top for a respected congress person.

I agree with your post and thought the same thing when I saw this segment. I hope his new found popularity doesn't go to his head and thinks we want red meat thrown at us. I like the backbone he has shown in standing up to the GOP when no other Dems would. That being said, I would prefer he leaves this kind of stuff to the Bachmans of the GOP.

Never, ever forget that the 9/11 attacks happened on the Bush/Cheney watch. Bush and Cheney were warned nine months prior to the 9/11 attacks that such attacks were being planned. bush and Cheney chose to ignore those warnings. Bush and Cheney were too busy dithering around with Iraq.

Grayson - stick to the issue at hand; the healthcare debate and after that, take you passion and humor to attack Republicans on other issues of importance.

But, if you start clowning you are just going to stoop to the level that people are bemoaning about Fox.

I would be more concerned about what these neo-Cons like Cheney, Rumsfeld, Gaffney, et al are cooking up because the ONE thing that will legitimize what they say about our National Security is another "attack."

Just very suspicious to me that he and his daughter are being funded to get ads out saying how weak Obama is on National Security and how much more vulnerable we are now than under Bush/Cheney.

That being said, you are a breath of freshair.
