Oh baby! Seventh Generation has teamed up with Erin Brockovich and Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families in order to overthrow the old chemical legislation and require tougher standers and more testing. 1.25 million children in America are unintentionally poisoned in the home every year. The proposed "Kids Safe Chemicals Act" will require chemical manufacturers to do safety tests on their products, and to make the results public. The Million Baby Crawl will collect signatures to be presented in Washington in January -- plus, they're hoping to rally parents to take for tougher laws.

Check out the Million Baby Crawl website and watch these ads that are spreading the word.

Children are not small adults; rather, they are a developing version of an adult. Simply put, children are under construction. They are unfinished and their developing systems are quite fragile. We know, for instance, that in children the brain continues to develop into their twenties, and this makes their brains potentially more vulnerable to toxicants. They breathe much more rapidly, so they take in more toxins through their lungs. An exposure that might have little negative effect on an adult can be deadly for a child. For children, depending on the exposure, some of the first systems to show negative health effects can be the neurological and respiratory systems.

The effects of environmental exposures on children are of particular concern when we consider the rising incidence of pediatric cancers. Never before has there been so much cancer in children.

It's great to know that people are campaigning keep our children healthy but the way that this proposed legislation is currently worded it would do more harm than good. That's because it relies heavily on outdated animal test. So, not only would results of the chemical tests not be applicable to our children, hundreds of thousands of animals would suffer and die during painful procedures that will poison them. Great campaign. I'm surprised the Pro-Lifers didn't come up with something like this first.

Those babies are crawling in protest to the tens if thousands of dollars of taxes they are already in debt for, thanks to big government spending.

I think this will touch the hearts and minds of most americans until they hear that the law will result in a 1% increase in costs. then they will start denying that the chemicals do anything bad. :)

This is for a good cause. Did you know even baby shampoo has dangerous chemicals. Our cosmetics, lipstick, fragrance, air freshener, well just about everything has chemicals that have never been tested for safety. They were supposed to test the chemicals since the 70's but they never did, and thousands have entered the market since that time. If you write or call your senator, they do nothing. I would not be suffering today if they had done something years ago. I was fine until I was 44. Ten years of writing and calling for chemical reform and trying to get help for the sickest of the sick. I always used those products-- but now I can't. Why must millions suffer while our leaders did nothing and have the best health care. Something is very wrong. I can't think of anything worse than allowing Americans to be poisoned for profit. And they have these wars condemning others, and this is going on.

This spot should have been a 30 or even a 15. Good idea, though.

I think that getting 1.25 million babies to crawl on busy steets to protest ? (I don't know, I didn't read the article too much) is really sick. Where are their parents to allow this thing to go on?? Although I have to admit, they look pretty cute doing it.
