What's Your Reaction?

Right-wing neoconservative Frank Gaffney went on "Hardball" Thursday night to defend Dick Cheney but ended up just insulting his fellow guest.

After a long exchange with Air America host Ron Reagan on the war in Afghanistan, Gaffney gave up on arguing and went for a personal attack. "Your father would be ashamed of you," he told Reagan, whose father was the late president.

"Oh, Frank," Reagan replied, "you better watch your mouth about that, Frank."

Watch the whole exchange:

Or just the insult:

Some background on Gaffney from Steve Benen:

In June, Gaffney wrote a column insisting that President Obama might really be a Muslim. In March, Gaffney argued that "evidence" exists connecting Saddam Hussein to 9/11, the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center, and the Oklahoma City bombing. Last September, Gaffney argued that Sarah Palin has learned foreign policy through "osmosis," by living in Alaska. He's argued that U.S. forces really did find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, but the media covered it up. He's used made-up quotes and recommended "hanging" Democratic officials critical of the Bush administration's Iraq policy. He even believes there's "evidence" to support the "Birthers," and once recommended a military strike on Al Jazeera headquarters.

With all of the apologies that are being demanded of people in the media and politics, this one needs to be at the top of the list. This was a clear cut debate FAIL. And it really bothers me that there probably won't be any consequences for saying something so low and deplorable. If there are any reporters reading this right now, can we get an update on this story? Someone ask this guy what the hell he hoped to gain by hurling that insult.

Cheney is a part of the administration that put our folks in Afghanistan. I supported blowing the hell outta Afghanistan and that piece of the "forgotten" war as we moved on to Iraq. I supported getting rid of Saddam by whatever means but our former administration let go of Afghanistan and NOW they are criticizing the clean up while they are awarding a convicted felon.

As for Gaffney, what the hell is going on with his disrespectful dialogue w/Ron Reagan? Hopefully no one ever looks in Gaffney's closet...I'm sure there are a lot of broken skeletons on the floor....

For anyone that is curious, I am 100% behind our military and it's branches as I have family in the Marines and I am 100% in support of knocking off anyone that tries to hurt/bomb etc. our country. I lived in Washington DC during 9/11 and then moved to NYC shortly after and it was horrific so YES, I am in support being the #1 SUPERPOWER and having the biggest baddest military but not in support of this being another Vietnam in 2 different countries at the cost of US Military lives.

I saw that interview, and I was shocked, shocked, I tell you, to hear a Republican stoop to the level of this guy. Wonder what happened after the show? Hopefully, for the Gaffey guy, they weren't in the same city.

Go Ron!

Frank Gaffney's mother should have been ashamed when she gave birth to him.

Gaffney *highlights*

*"My position is [that] it is regrettable that any Americans died. It is regrettable that they had to die, but I believe they did have to die. The threat we did know about was the chemical capability that Saddam Hussein had used against his own people. The potential for biological agents were real there was evidence that there was an ongoing nuclear program... The danger was inaction could have resulted in the death[s] of a great many more Americans than 4,000 and that's the reason I'm still delighted that we did what we did."

*In October 2008, Gaffney questioned whether then Senator of Illinois Barack Obama is a "natural born citizen of the United States" and his legal eligibility to be president.

*In a February 2009 Washington Times column, Gaffney accused President Obama of "embracing the agenda of the Muslim Brotherhood," a militant organization banned throughout the Middle East.

*In April 2009, Gaffney appeared on television and accused President Obama of using coded language to indicate that America would submit to Sharia law.

*In a June 9, 2009, Washington Times article Gaffney wrote: "With Mr. Obama's unbelievably ballyhooed address in Cairo Thursday to what he calls "the Muslim world" (hereafter known as "the Speech"), there is mounting evidence that the president not only identifies with Muslims, but actually may still be one himself."

Why would you say that? He was sensible enough not to follow the same party as his father. Amazing, there are a lot of noteable repubs who seem to have that problem with their kids. lol

I bet it would be hard being a Republican with a mind of your own. If only such a Republican existed.

Sigh. Would be nice to have such a Republican. We could finally have a productive debate on the issues, instead of watching these guys self destruct. Then again that's kinda fun. Have at it, Repugs.

His son becoming a vocal personality on the left, perhaps we'll never know the answer to that but what that jerk said was way below the belt and of course he'd say it while he wasn't in the same room because he knows his clock would have gotten cleaned on national tv during primetime.
