Indoctrination starts early. This is sad.

So now education is called indoctrination. What a horrible thing to teach our children, RESPECT for our home, this little place called earth. Respect in general for all living beings... Truly ter-rible thing.

It was so much better back in sixties when lake Erie caught on fire, people were choking on smog in the cities, children were getting si-ck from led pois-oning, animals were being hun-ted to extinction since they are pesky anyway-what do we need them for... Yeah those were the good old days when we had real education about US versus those ev-il REDS, and not indoctrination... when blacks knew their place and whites ruled... yup those were the good old days.

Haus you sure got things figure out.

indoctrination always has started early!
don't forget that bringing children to believe in god (power, money or else) is as indoctrinating as bringing them to take care of the planet !

I don't care which side of the issue they are on, I dislike children being used to express intellectual concepts beyond their grasp. This includes advertisements. They never move me - always irritate me. It is exploitation.
01:54 PM on 10/26/2009
Agreed... Its kinda like conditioning... In fact, it is conditioning...

This is why I despise both sides of the political spectrum. Once again children are being exploited to further a political agenda. It doesn't matter which side of the fence you are one when it comes to global warming/climate change (or any cause)--using children, who are not even old enough to understand what they are supporting or protesting, is a sad reminder that many liberals & conservatives are equally despicable and will use whatever means they will to support their agendas.

Shameful.

The CO2 level is already 385 .... mostly because of the CO2 releasing from the oceans, which we can't do anything about ... so if human existence is not encapsulated in some sort of 'bubble' apart from all other factors, there NEVER WAS any hope of affecting anything ... and the whole '350' thing is a scam.

Not to mention how Carbon is one life's major building blocks...

"The CO2 level is already 385 .... mostly because of the CO2 releasing from the oceans, which we can't do anything about"

While it's true that most of the CO2 released into atmosphere is released from the oceans, per the scientific consensus most of the almost one-third increase in atmospheric CO2 since the dawn of the industrial revolution has been driven by man-made fossil fuel burning.

teaching kids to do nice things is not bad. teaching to h.ate is.
03:17 PM on 10/25/2009
These children have no idea what theyre protesting.. The parents should be ashamed by indoctrinating their children and not giving them the years to think for themselves..
07:11 PM on 10/25/2009
Yeah man! And if you see any kids collecting money for Unicef this Halloween, make sure you give them a good lecturin' instead of a fistful of pennies.

Says Sensiblebg right before conducting the evening's bible lesson....
01:55 PM on 10/26/2009
I guess you agree... It is the same...
01:07 PM on 10/25/2009
Don't you complainers ever get tired of yourselves? Can you even stand each other? Do you even remember how to say ANYTHING that isn't a negative, sarcastic, personal attack? Do you have even the faintest clue what a horrible, mean, ignorant image you're presenting of America? Any clue at all?

The issue behind the 350 movement is in a race with peak oil to be THE defining issue of your children's lives. but you don't care, because you just can't stop attacking everything you see.

First, I agree with the majority here: no matter the cause, little kids holding signs or joining in protests about which they have no clue is not cute. In some cases, I liken it to child abuse.

I remember one anti-abo rtion protest on FM1960 in Houston ( a main drag on the North side) several years ago. It extended for at least two miles, with lots of kids (ages 2 & up) holding signs & hollering at passing cars. In 90+ heat, on the curb, next to 6 lanes of traffic. If you want to put yourself through that because you believe in something, fine - call a sitter for the kids.

Second, I suspect a lot of the "naysayers" here are too young to remember the first (modern) wave of the anti-pollution movement, when you could literally see the air in any city, when there were soap suds on many rivers (those that weren't catching fire) & other lovely pre-regulation sights. Businesses were against any regulations then, too. It would cost to much, they'd go out of business or have to lay off people to pay for fixes to conform to new regs, etc.

It turned out it didn't destroy the economy, the environment is cleaner, & people who weren't around then can claim there's nothing to global warming or climate change because they've never seen any kind of enivornmental mess (having been born late enough to enjoy the benefits of earlier work done on their behalf).

I voted for Obama and am leftist on most issues these days, but not "climate change."

These children are essentially being used by religious extremists with an agenda.

Well, yes. And the agenda is to curb our use of fossil fuels, which is a good thing, whether or not global warming is "real". I do, however, share your opinion about using children as spokes-persons for political issues.
01:56 PM on 10/26/2009
I don't think the agenda is to curb the use of oil and coal... The real agenda is to implement a global carbon tax on the people of the world that the U.N. wants to collect and a Cap and Trade system that will enrich Wall Street.

If our government wanted people to compete against the oil and coal companies they would've stopped protecting oil and coal companies from free market competition.
01:57 PM on 10/26/2009
nothing wrong with fossil fuels...
10:32 AM on 10/25/2009
This is another reason that the voting age should be raised to 25. By 25, most signs of indoctrination OF ANY SOCIO/POLITICAL DIRECTION have been tempered by maturity.
09:47 AM on 10/25/2009
I'm fairly certain that photos of children at right-wing protests (anti-abortion comes to mind) are rarely thought of as sweet and endearing on this board, and the sentiment that children should not be exploited for their parents' politics really ought to hold in this case too.

Clever only seems easy

How cute and poignant at the same time. Very clever to dress children in the kinds of clothing that people, not that long ago, were required to wear to protect from a term rarely used today, cold. My only concern is that those relics of a bygone era, be removed quickly so as to avoid the possibility of heat exhaustion.
