Is there any question why there are laws against every natural, God given alkaloid derivitive that could be used for opening the mind to the world around us and within us would allow people to look beyond the boxes that our respective religions, governments and cultures have locked us into?
People who experience this phenomena are more inclined to see the senslessness to all the manipulation we are bambarded with on a daily basis, generation upon generation. And the fear of the keepers of the established norms realize fully well that people with a larger scope of sight, consciousness and rationale are infiitely harder to control and wield power over.
It's not those that want to break the chains that are wrong for wanting to do so. It is their captors who prohibit this very basic freedom that are wrong, in the most evil ways and for the most evil cause, power over others.

I find it interesting that this video was every bit (or more) as much a piece of anti-hallucinogenic propaganda as it was (as announced) an information piece on the research being done in mapping the brain using hallucinogenics. It was not balanced in that only the negatives of the drug were highlighted to any real depth while the positives such as resultant individual consciousness expansion, the many positive uses it can and has been used for in the treatment of various psychiatric ailments and as a tool to help people release themselves from self destructive dependencies on substances such as alcohol. I am but a layman but I am an advocate of regulated use of certain types of pharmaceutical grade hallucinogenics being made available to the public for personal use in controlled environments and assisted by trained medical personnel in specially designed spa based clinics for the purpose of the occasional internal vacation which could vastly expand a person's view of the physical paradigm to the point where the average, everyday person's irrational fears, tensions and seemingly overwhelming daily obstacles could be reduced and exposed for the illusions they truly are.
Really, when you dig right down to the core of it, our society, culture, media, nationalism, politics, policies toward the world around us are all thier own form of hallucinogenics and illusion as things are, and having a cleansing alternative on occassion (under controlled conditions) would be an eye opening experience for anyone who has never experienced it.

As Nick Sand pointed out, it is said that the War on Some Drugs forces us even to try to prove that they can be ok by using them to cure alcoholism for instance. While curing alcoholism is certainly good, the psychedelic experience, when done properly, is a good thing on its own merits without a specific goal--without having to prove numerically that it is worthwhile. It is that very power to return people to being able to see things for their intrinsic value and not for how they can be monetized or made more "effective" by some numerical value, and then slavishly worked under this paradigm until we lose sight of the thing itself.

I don't think this is unfair. Not everyone has positive experiences when using drugs. Although I think the numbers of people that have negative experiences are very much in the minority. We can go into a number of reasons why some folks have negative experiences. But, it's not fair to say that this is to scare people. I wasn't scared. I wasn't particularly informed either as there was nothing here I didn't know.

I think the potential that one can have a negative effect is important. The reality of the situation is that many users are indeed very ignorant. I've known marijuana users who have been smoking for decades and actually believe that high quality marijuana is laced with something. They then teach this to other first time users and it goes on and on.

This ignorance is promoted by law enforcement who've never been honest about these drugs. It's that ignorance that puts people in the most danger. They don't know what the drugs do. They don't know how to take drugs. They don't understand tolerance. Even some of the more experienced users don't always have the common sense to teach first.

I always teach before giving someone marijuana for the first time because a bad experience can happen. I don't want their ignorance to give them a bad impression of harmless substance. I've had people say it's "OK" but it's not for them. That's a respectful conclusion to first time user who's informed.

What this testing is missing is that a major part of an LSD trip is the interaction of your environment. Analyzing and mapping in a lab yields a relatively small set of data. Arguably it would be much more difficult to monitor, but likely could be done with the use of portable systems to then offload the data to be mapped later.

Letting the subject trip "normally" would be a valuable part of this research.

This IS a serious drug and requires serious dosage and enviornmental controls.

Many people take LSD many times and never have a trip to hell.
Could we also see what a GREAT trip looks like, please?

Life has a 100% mortality rate. Nobody gets out alive.

Hallucination was big back in Biblical times. They had mushrooms, peyote, Ghatt, and ergot mold growing in bread. This explains all the incredible fantasies that can be found in the book. Who else would claim to talk to god, see demons, angels, witches, dragons, and the like?

"The two types of people who are against drugs are those who have never done drugs, and those who have failed at doing drugs." -- Doug Stanhope.

If you have taken LSD and you want to avoid a horrible, terrifying descent into paranoid hell, you might want to approach the experience by not putting on a hat full of electrodes and spending the next 12 hours sitting motionless in a dimly lit laboratory being watched by doctors and scientists. Sheeesh!

Fake? That's the thing, when you're on acid/mushrooms, to you it's absolutely real.

No, the clouds are not really melting out of the sky and dripping down to earth, but to the person that is tripping it's as real anything. And it can be very beautiful.
