Sunday October 25th was a great day for America as White House Domestic Policy Council Director Melody Barnes became the first woman to play golf with Obama since he became president.

The Washington trailblazer dressed befittingly of the occasion, donning khakis and one of those ubiquitous Black Dog baseball caps. But when she's not hitting the links, Barnes tends to dress up basic black with accents like jewelry, a shawl, or a splash of color. See her style essentials below, and vote on whether they're hits or misses.

For the occasion, she wore a Black Dog Bakery baseball cap, a black turtleneck, white sweatshirt, and high-waisted khaki slacks. (Getty)

I could care less who the President plays games with in his free time or what they are wearing then either.

I have to say, I wouldn't want to play basketball with men. (I've played tag football as an undergrad, and that was a blast. :o) It's naive, however, to think that excluding women from golf, tennis, etc., is a "non-issue" regarding women's work equality. Going out with the girls for a movie or the boys for a pick-up game of basketball is one thing; keeping all social events sex segregated with the exception of married heterosexual couples is quite another. The second mentality & practice simply disadvantages women in higher status, higher income earning positions. (Following the "boys need (lots of) boys time" logic, if Michelle Obama decides to practice law after Barack Obama's stint in the white house, she should be barred from meeting with male colleagues to discuss a case over a drink, she certainly should not travel alone to attend conferences and meetings, and she should never accept a game of tennis or racket ball with her male superior. Poppycock.)

Everyone was trying to use the fact that president Obama was sexist because he didn't include women in his golf and basketball games. So what is the first thing HP does?? Grades Melody Barnes on her clothing (and some on her golf gag). How sexist and hypocritical is that?

What is this with these fashion polls?
Why are we reducing these highly educated women to the level of The Housewives of Atlanta?
Give it a rest and respect them for what comes from their brains NOT what they wear.
It's utterly ridiculous and so demeaning to what they've accomplished.
The First Lady and the VP's wife I totally understand but the women who aren't there because of a husband, leave them alone.

In high school, I played basketball; in fact became captain of my team. In the past (distant past) I have engaged in a one-on-one with a guy (my idea of flirting) to have some fun.

As a young girl, I wanted to play softball with the boys in a game were my dad was the pitcher. I looked up and a ball had been batted directly at me ... I yelled to all the guys "my ball" and eagerly stretched forth my arms to catch "my ball." The force of that ball knocked me down having actually caught it under my chin.

There is a reason we have the NBA for men and the WNBA for women... The physical match-up is not balanced. I imagine if Ms. Sebelus were invited to play basketball with the President and were she knocked down, the headline would read President Obama overpowers top female cabinet member and the ensuing fertilizer would stink up the newsrooms.

Golf is probably a more appropriate venue for intramural sports. However, even in corporate America, we have male and female golf clubs. Who decides these things??? More importantly, who decides how we fill white space ...

That must of been a public course, most private or semi-private course require a collar.

That rule applies to men. Women aren't mandated to this rule in many private clubs that I've played across the country. Women can even go sleeveless.

Maybe my 4 handicap affords me to play at better private courses.

NOT TRUE! Your comment shows you haven't seen the clothes for sale in a club house OR the clothes the pro's wear during the tournaments (Tiger Woods comes to mind.... I haven't seen many collars on him in recent years). Times change my friend.

Nobody really cares because it wasn't most of us who promised transparency and change we can believe in. The good old boy system and glass ceilings have long since disappeared. Right?

So, why has the president invited only guys to play basketball? Why not Sebelius? She played in college?

Bowling is an ideal game for both s3xes

Because guys like to play b-ball with guys. They want to knock each other all over the court if need be. Why must everything be so ridiculously pc? Because this president gets criticized for EVERYTHING by those who can't stand the fact that he won the election with the help of a media that reports on rumors and criticism instead of actual news items.

Why is this an issue? It is inane and diminishes the cause of equality for females. Why has this never before been an issue for a president of the U S ? No one ever even hinted that George Bush should include females on his bike ride or on the golf course. And, no one dared suggest that Clinton spend his spare time with young women. In fact, people were assigned to keep him away from young women. They failed, President Obama has a wife and although I think she is completely confident and self assured, most wifes aren't that excited about sharing their spouse's free time with other females. What if the gender was reversed? Would there be a demand from males that they be included in leisure time activites with a female president? I treasure time spent in the company of girl friends - no men allowed. I grant that right to males understanding that as poor as they are at bonding, they do need the comraderie and relaxation of spending time with other men in an activity they enjoy.

Who is she?

She can wear anything.

I think about 5% of the population really cares what other people wear.

I mean Obama can not do anything without being criticized. Oh u dont play with women so u hate women. I mean this PC thing is getting ridiculous. I never saw bush play with women. No one ever criticized him.

Why didn't he ever invite women to play at the White House? He only invited men. He has several women on his staff who played BB in high school or college.

Nope. BO wants a boys club and the feminists are just in a tiff over it.

And the first time a woman was injured, you would complain about rough play. Has anyone actually asked these women if they want to play basketball with these men? They are a long way from high school and college. Are they fit or strong enough? Compare their size to some of the men playing. Would everyone then demand that the team be balanced by size, weight and fitness??

I think Ms. Barnes has very good taste and dresses appropriately for the occasions in which she's pictured here. Nothing flamboyant or even all that noticeable really. She dresses well for her shape and the occasion.

Hmmmm, wonder why Huff-Po didn't post the article about Obama playing more golf in his first 9 months in office then President Bush did in 3 years. Glad he has his priorities straight. Where are the howls? : )

Because that wouldn't be true. We have no idea how much golf old George played since he was on vacation 18 months out of his first three years.
