Perry Hutchison

Fort Worth Star Telegram:

Texas Democrats watching the state's top two Republicans fight for their party's gubernatorial nomination are glad that Gov. Rick Perry and U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison have apparently abandoned the Republicans' 11th Commandment, established during Ronald Reagan's run for California governor in 1966: Thou shall not speak ill of another Republican.

And they hope that the GOP gubernatorial battle creates enough division within the party to help Democrats in the general election and for years to come.

Texas, the state that didn't tell African American slaves that the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, and they were freed until five years after on June 19th. That is the JUNETEENTH celebration. Nina Simone had a lyric that went, "Everybody knows about Mississippi..." and, I will add TEXAS too.

it is a matter of degrees. there are good and bad people everywhere in every state. to try to say the whole state of texas is bad because of a few bad apples is wrong. there are many many decent, progressive liberals here that hate rick perry and are just as ashamed of George Bush as anyone.

I am watching this one with great anticipation and glee. I don't like her one bit but I will have fun seeing her kick Govnr Big Hair's butt. I would almost change parties just to vote for her in the primary. Go Kinky!

"If Perry wins and TexAss secedes (Oh please, oh please, oh please!!), will we need a passort to go to Austin for South By Southwest?""""
If you keep knocking Texas as you have been doing, it is going to take more than a passport for you to attend SXSW......We're tired of it.
Not everyone that lives in Texas is a bad person.
Help, instead of hinder....

Way to go, Pat. Thanks!

We are working our fool butts off to bring change to this state. We have been hindered for years with residents like Rove, Bush (1 and 2), Perry, Armey, Delay, et al.

I'd say with what we have been up against, we've done a heck of a good job and much deserve more than the hopes of a few that promote seceding - in jest or not.

Ashamed, I'd have to agree - with the likes of Bush, Perry and Rove, I'd think you can have more success running and smashing youtr head into a wall. Wow do I miss Ann Richards

Please continue. We love it.

This might be Hutchison's race to lose. Perry is handling the Willingham case extraordinarily bad. The local papers and television media keep handing him life preservers by playing devil's advocate, but it won't be enough. He doesn't care if Willingham was guilty or not, he's just trying to keep this case from being a springboard to a ban on state sanctioned m_rder.

That said, we don't have a strong democrat to run. No candidates have widespread name recognization yet, but we'll keep trying. We have to.

It is a real shame that Bill White, Mayor of Houston, is not running for Govenor. He has done a fabulous job and is a great mayor and would have made a great governor.

He instead is running for Kay Bailey Hutichison's senate seat.

He will do more to repair our image on the national stage. The DSCC is supporting him so there may be another role for John Sharp to play (governor?) as we turn this state blue.

How can there be fallout when neither of them have any standing? Nor does the republican party these days.

I hope that Hutchison and Perry rip into one another so badly that a good Dem can get elected. Perry won with just 38% of the vote last time, because one Republican ran as an Independent.

A good, knockout, draggout, dirty, let's take no prisoners from the PUBS on this, and we may be able to partially pull ourselves out of the dark ages.

Perry has alot more support here among conservatives...but they still hold their nose and vote for him. The demographics have changed here, but it's still a pretty conservative state. There needs to be a massive organization effort here in Texas. If you do that, you can turn it blue. Perry won last time with only 37% of the vote and McCain only won the state by 9 points. It's been trending blue since '02, and Katrina increased our minority population here.

If only Democrats had an 11th commandment, to not speak ill of a fellow Democrat. We could use a bit more party cohesiveness and discipline. Might even get 60+ votes in the Senate that way for a public option.

Faved, Killgore, they are getting better.

As a native Dallasite, university in Austin, now living in Nashville, I say one big HOORAY, let the Rethugs tear each other apart -- let Texas come back to their Democratic Party ways of LBJ.

Vote Kinky Friedman for Governor.

That's what makes Democrats Democrats. If they had that lock step cohesion, follow orders mentality, they would be Republicans. Personally, I'm not nearly as pro Democratic as I am anti Republican.

Mark Twain said something to the effect that he did not belong to an organized political party, he was a Democrat.
