RNC Facebook Photo Taken Down: Racist Anti-Obama Picture

The Republican National Committee came under fire after a user posted a controversial photo on its Facebook page. The RNC "fan" upload features a picture of President Obama eating fried chicken with the slogan: "Miscegenation Is a CRIME against American values... Repeal Loving v. Virginia."

Loving v. Virginia is a milestone civil rights case that led the Supreme Court to rule that prohibiting interracial marriage violates the Constitution.

Though the "miscegenation" post was removed from the RNC's Facebook page after provoking outrage, Newsweek points out that the slip-up is not an isolated incident:

E-mail has been a recurring Achilles heel. In February, the mayor of Los Alamitos, Calif., sent around an image of the White House surrounded by watermelons; he was forced to resign. The leader of a San Bernadino County, Calif., Republican women's club resigned last fall when the club circulated a similar photo, with then-candidate Obama surrounded by fried chicken, watermelon and ribs. The web also spread word of two South Carolina Republicans' reference to a stereotype about Jews.

How can they allow unmoderated photos to be uploaded to their site by anonymous users? That is so asking for trouble.

I don't even begin to understand how Steele can advocate for the GOP

Especially when it is obvious that the GOP has clearly rehashed and updated the old Nixonian policies

It is clear that the GOP and their surrogates have embraced a more aggressive and vitriolic "Southern Strategy" as the vehicle for survival and resurgence

I am with you; I don't see how Steele can be a part of this group or anyone else for that matter. There are no ethics, no morals, no decency. The blatant racism is always there with the RNC, and absolutely no one in the GOP camp speaks up. Don't tell me that they are that separate. Here's a party that claims to have a "big tent". How does this group plan to expand their party and increase their numbers? Do decent people who truly can see the right and wrong want to be a part of the RNC and GOP? OH, I am tired of these half-@$$ apologies that everyone keeps giving. If you know you may have to apologize, don't do it. The apology is worthless.

I tis just more evidence and helps solidify my belief that racism is a huge part in what is going on in America today. We all knew it would happen, we just didn't know how bad it would be. It isn't as bad as it could have been. But the denial by much of the media and all of the right is what concerns me most. Rarely is this called for what it is.

Sure, there are actual Americans who have problems with Obama's leadership skills, especially for the simple fact that he has a D in front of his name. But to the extend and vile levels that we have seen? That is an added factor of hatred or fear.

Sure, we on the left despise just about everything about Bush. The man used our troops for his political and Cheney's economical fodder. The abandoned Afghanistan til Afghanistand seemed unwinnable, just to fight a war against a ficticous enemy. All while having either hid from service or hid while serving themselves. The whole lot were cowards. But there was none of this in the first year, in the second year. It all started after Iraq, and Katrina.

Not even a couple months in and the ugliness started, that is racism.

There is racism across the board, it is not limited to political party, geography, etc. But many racists feel comfortable in the republican party because their policies are usually more hostile to minorities and women. They hate immigrants (Mexicans), affirmative action, ACORN, gays, etc. So that's why there is the perception that republicans are racists. There are non-racist republicans and racist democrats, libertarians, green partiers, etc. No group holds a monopoly on racism borne of insecurity and ignorance.

Incidents like these continue to reinforce the concept that the GOP allows and condones racism.
The message that because Obama is an offspring of an interracial marriage should be considered a "crime" against American values is disgusting. Alongside the request that the law ending all race based legal restrictions on marriage in the United States be repelled. And taking a week before the picture with caption was removed says more about their acceptance and tolerance of racism than anything else.
None of their political leaders had the intestinal fortitude to confront and denounce the caption for fear of losing those votes they can always count on getting—racists and bigots. Mealy mouthed cowards.

The RNC just issued a press release reading in part -

"Well golly folks, this gosh darn series of tubes called the interwebs is so hard to figure out. We keep trying to make sure this sort of thing never happens again, but gee wilickers its a dilly of a pickle.

We resolve that from now on all pictures like this are forbidden to be sent via web tubes. Our preferred method is now UPS and Fax."

What else do these ratspew RepubliKans have to do before everyone realizes their ideology is built upon RACIAL INTOLERANCE? Do they have to call him a N* will that finally convince you...?

Yet another racist attack against the President. This time it was blatantly obvious, and so "hidden" as happens so often on conservative/republican pundit shows.

And Republicans gets upset when their opponents "plays the race card" all the time.

Hint: Stop endorsing the racist remarks.

As an A.A I don't like the idea of being in lockstep with any particular party, but the Republicans, esp in recent years seems to attract this type to such a degree that I am just uncomfortable with them.
