School Workers Victims Of City Budget Cuts

When Roger Maloney's wife was laid off last fall, he was relieved he had a job in the city schools that he loved and could keep the family above water.

Last week, he found himself standing on line at the Medicaid office to get health coverage for himself, his wife and his 1- and 3-year-old daughters after school budget cuts forced him out of his job.

This is so sad. I don't see why we can't legalize marijuana and dump cops. We'd save millions on petty law enforcement which cowardly police should be using to go after big fish, obviously something Obama has decided to halt at the federal level. Instead, we're hiring more police officers and firing teachers. This is backward to say the least. We need more investment in education and smarter police. How can we do that if we dump teachers. Instead we get dumber people who pick up guns to either rob/murder people or arrest them or all of the above in many cases.
