Crain's New York Business:

The 2010 census is expected to show that New York City has gained more residents this decade than any other city in the country. It will be one of just a handful of cities in the Northeast or the Midwest to see a population increase. But one person will be missing from the population picture: the average New Yorker.

its all BS. there are just as many average Joe's here as before. More people that have left NY are moving back.. People aren't leaving in droves . The only thing right is that we are multicultural . Housing prices in NYC have dropped , but not in the other boroughs . Downtown Brooklyn prices are up .People are leaving Manhattan for Brooklyn. More value for the money

The "average" New Yorker can;t afford the sky-high taxes and cost of living thanks to decades of mismanagement and corruption by politicians.

So - who will be left to pay the outrageous taxes? The rich? Doubtful, their income has dropped too and they will leave the city of taxes keep going up. The poor? They only take, they don't pay. The middle class? They get out as soon as they can.

NYC closes it's budgets with one-time gimmicks every year. And when you consider the "time bomb" that is the public employees pension fund, the city is back to the fiscal crisis of the 1970s - except much much worse.

I believe the only solution is to lower taxes across the board so people and businesses can and want to stay here. Government is not a growth industry, it doesn't create wealth. Gov't sucks the life out of productive people to redistribute to the entitled "takers."

Bloomberg is getting his wish; the middle class and poor NY'ers are going and gone. He wants a city of those like him, filthy rich without a heart or soul. God help the few of us poor folk that can't get out due to financial and medical problems preventing us from moving.
