Princess Letizia of Spain might be known for her fashion plate status, but is she taking fall fashion cues from Michelle Obama's style playbook? We couldn't help but notice that Letizia's most recent outfits resemble some of Michelle's previous ensembles. From belts and blazers to black and blue, who wore it better? There are tons of beautiful black woman in the United States that are professional and well dressed. Mrs Obama looks okay, but she is no "GREAT" beauty by any realistic measure. Keep in mind that this lady was a wife of a state senator and a US Senator and she was not considered a "great" beauty at any previous time. The election of her husband to US President does not transform her physical appearance or her clothing style. Her plus remain the same and so do her minuses. What we are getting is a lot of overkill from the "puff" media. She's no raving beauty--no Haile Berry, no Angela Bassett, no Lena Horne (at around the same age), no Beyonce, no Alexis Herman, no Condolezza Rice (yes, Ms Rice was a well dressed, conservatively styled lady), no Michelle Bernard, no Gabrielle Union. MO is simply a nice looking, ordinary looking American woman. If she was walking down the street with no secret service, as an ordinary American, no body would do a double take because of her stunning beauty. They weren't doing it prior to November 4, 2008, so that should tell you something. It's time that we return to earth in our comments about her.

while I agree with you that it's not necessary to write a book, Michelle is overrated looks-wise. Though, I like her style most of the time, Letizia looks for classic and streamlined here. The dress looks a bit cheap on Michelle for the occasion--too much pattern.

That being said, it's refreshing to see a first lady that does have style that is actually on the cover of Glamour. Her style is a reflection that we chose a President and first lady that are more progressive than past ones and our country is changing. Bravo for that.

You are as entitled to your opinion as anyone else, but what I personally find sad /questionable/ disheartening is the ease with which you try to dismiss First Lady Obama. As a Black person, I celebrate ALL of our accomplishments, but I must say that I take particular pride in Mrs. Obama because she not only represents the United States well, but she represents BL ACK WOMEN spectacularly well, also.

On top of her academic accomplishments and intellectual prowess, she shows the world ANOTHER image of beauty -- a new paradigm that goes against the Euro-centric standard that bombards our society. She has gorgeous DARK brown skin (flawless, too, I might add), as opposed to the more easily accepted 'Halle Berry' complexion. Mrs. Obama sports HER own hair, not the 'European styled' hair of Gabrielle Union. And Mrs. Obama walks the walk in maintaining a fit, toned B/ack woman's figure. She shows ALL of this to the world with grace, style, dignity, and pride.

I couldn't be more proud of her. I find it a sh@me that you don't care to see it the same way.

Their body structures are different, the styles are a different. have you seen Princess Letizia outfits in the summer? Chech it out, and later tell if the styles are similar. It's not the same being in Majorca than in the East Coast for vacation.
