Mark Horvath's blog Invisible People is dedicated to revealing the stories and individuals behind homelessness. His latest interview is with Ann Marie, a homeless woman in Chicago who uses social media to connect with others, including Horvath.
Ann Marie has been homeless for about five years, and is starting to work with some new case managers to find housing and healthcare set up for her. She ended up on the streets through a combination of unemployment and post-traumatic stress disorder. Ann Marie uses social media such as Twitter to educate people about her situation and to help them understand what she's experiencing. The usage of tools such as Twitter and Facebook by the homeless may influence social services and virtual case management in the future. Ann Marie confides that she simply wants a job, a house and the ability to see her kids and family again.
