I'm sure Israel is already keeping the phones hot to DC trying to get a bombing run in as quckly as possible on the off chance Iran does follow through.
That headline is so ridiculous. And as all the posters have already noted, Iran is just playing a game of poker with the UN, and as we all know, the UN will blink first....
A more truthful assessment:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/28/world/middleeast/28iran.html?ref=world
The truthful part in that, which was replete with assumptions and 'what if' scenarios (which are legitimate, when framed as such), was that there is an internal rift within the leadership. Larijani, Bahonar, and Alaedin Borujerdi expressing some opposition - in part, political in nature. Naturally, ultra-hardline newspaper Kayhan has taken an absolutist stance,
«A charlatan had his eye on his friend's ring.To get it, he told him, "Give me your ring so whenever I see it I'll think of you." His wary friend replied, "How about I don't give it to you, so you'll remember me whenever you look at your ring-less finger!"»
But, I hopefully foresee at least a compromise like Rezai has suggested, which would still leave Iran below the the commonly accepted amount of LEU required to make a weapon. From Iran's POV, no matter whether you like the present government or not (and I do not), I can understand pragmatic anxieties (amplified by Uncle Napoleon Syndrome) that the enriched fuel's return be tied with conditions.
I would suggest the P5+1 sweeten the pot by lifting some sanctions - I would suggest on civilian aircraft parts, especially. Because, if this deal were to happen (and I had felt it was almost too good to be true when I first heard the proposal), it would damage the Israeli/neocon position dramatically. That last point, I would hope the Iranian leadership has considered, though it may not considered of immediate national concern by them.
They'll get their bomb. No doubt about it.
The day we believe that Ahmadinejad is going to give up his pursuit of nuclear weapons we can lay in wait for a nuclear mishap in Iran.
Hell will freeze over before Iran (has nothing to do with Ahmadi) will give up its right to nuclear power.
You're so adorable. You've been corrected so many times yet continue to hold fast to the facile belief that the Iranian President makes any key decisions or has any real authority regarding the nuclear program.
THIS IS ALL OBAMAS FAULT
The headline is misleading. There is no deal yet. Iran is still negotiating. "I accept the offer with these changes" actually means "I reject your offer, and here is my counter-offer".
Some observers believe Iran will possibly offer a small amount of its fuel for reprocessing but keep enough to continue to operate its suspect nuclear "research" efforts.
.......B U T ......they say.. ?.........LMAO ! .......i'll .believe it when I ...see it >>>> !.......you all take Iran at there ..WORD...... ? .. .LET 'S......LET ....THE INK DRY FIRST.. !........LOL !
This is called negotiation. One side proposes, the other side takes a look at the proposal, subtracts and adds what it will, it's passed back to the other side who does the same, eventually a deal is made. Negotiation.
You seem to believe that for some reason Iranians are liars. Why?
Wouldn't it make more sense to view the majority of the world's politicians, no matter what country they life in, as liars?
i can hear popping empty heads of neocons after reading this news...
But wait, how can we have a deal in Iran without bombing them.
Using negotiation to make sure everyone gets what they want. Won't someone please think of the invasion business. Obviously this is anti-military. We should call our republican representatives and make sure they oppose this deal.
Otherwise we will never spend trillions of dollars to invade another country.
And deprive someone from empty chest thumping or employing the new buzzword 'dithering'? You, sir, are the truly cruel one. ;-)
