So to be the change I wanted to see in the world, it unfortunately meant I was going to have to give up cash, which I initially decided to do for a year. I got myself a caravan, parked it up on an organic farm where I was volunteering and kitted it out to be off-grid.

Well, if my son is still keen to put up solar panels in spring, I'll let him.

The little steps one can take, without going to extremes, include using the library rather than purchasing books and magazines (unless they're real keepers), shopping second-hand and swapping goods and services with neighbours and friends.

I'd like to call attention to the fact that this man lives in England where health care is nationalized. He doesn't have to worry as much as I do over what would happen if he contracted a life threatening illness. I notice that he is able to park his trailer rent free in return for free labor. What happens if he is no longer able to work? Will they evict him off the property, or will he become another pain in the arse squatter?

On a positive note, what he's doing is reminding us that we don't always need to depend on the almighty banks and credit cards to survive. But American men and women have been doing this for ages--in a A time honored culture of music, art and a language all its own; we just call them "hobo's."

I think about all the same things you are pondering. What if what if what if...

I admire the fearlessness of this guy to live without the constraints of "what if". I genuinely wish I had the guts to do exactly what he's doing. I don't. I'm addicted to being an industrialized human. This addiction is no different than food addiction or addiction to narcotics. It's sad.

Interesting. I'd like to know more about what exactly, he does, and how he does it.

He's a vegan (except for the toothpaste). So much for a vegan diet being just too expensive for anyone to follow (a ridiculous statement which I've read on this forum a number of times).
