Mark Sanchez

Mark Sanchez, quarterback of the New York Jets, is making amends for what some dubbed "Hot Dog-Gate." He was caught on camera stealthily eating a hotdog on the sideline during last Sunday's game against the Raiders.

So what's a hot dog lover got to do to set things right? Help the less fortunate and hot dogless, of course. Sanchez donated more than 1,000 hot dogs and hamburgers to the Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown, New Jersey, as penance for his sideline snack. The Jets then announced on Twitter that Sanchez has purchased 500 hot dogs and 500 hamburgers for the soup kitchen.

This kid is turning a negative into a positive. He's been brought up well. I look forward to his long and successful career with the Jets along with his service to the community.

That being said, don't throw any bonehead picks against Miami this Sunday.

Anyone that can tell me what the problem is with having a bite to eat on the sidelines - please explain that to me. Seems so silly.

Eating a hot dog on the sidelines while your team is winning 30 to 0 could be seen as "showing up" your opponent .

Although these folks spend most of the afternoon slapping the snot out of each other, they still have a code of "sportsmanship" and respect for their worthy opponent. Athletic competition is often draped in ritualistic behaviors. It is often part melee, part morality play.

I just love how he responded to it. He not only apologized, but he also donated a ton of food to a worthy local cause. I'm not a Jets fan, but I think I'm becoming a Mark Sanchez fan.

"Sanchise" is pretty mature for a 22 year old.
