Massachusetts Dentist Will Buy Your Candy (For A Good Cause)
Dr. Mike Thomas of Abington Family Dental Care has posed a tantalizing offer to his patients this Halloween, reports the The Enterprise.
His practice's "Great Halloween Buyback" is offering a sweet deal to patients: Sell your candy to the dentist for $1 per pound and get some cash instead of cavities. Then Dr. Thomas will send all those chewy gooey sugary nuggets to soldiers fighting overseas.
"Ditch the candy, that's what we're saying," Thomas said. "Visiting your dentist twice a year and brushing and flossing daily are great preventative measures, but doing away with excess sweets altogether would really give your teeth a healthy boost."
Thomas launched the candy buyback program through Operation Gratitude, which:
"seeks to lift morale and put smiles on faces by sending care packages addressed to individual Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines deployed overseas. Operation Gratitude care packages contain food, hygiene products, entertainment items and personal letters of appreciation, all wrapped with good wishes of love and support. Through collection drives, letter-writing campaigns and donations of funds for shipping expenses, Operation Gratitude provides civilians anywhere in America a way to express their respect and appreciation to the men and women of the U.S. military in an active, hands-on manner."
Thomas will be collecting candy on Sunday Nov. 1 from any willing trick-or-treaters in the Abington Mass area. But you don't have to be from his hometown to make a difference during Halloween.
