Women who file false assault charges do great harm to those actually accosted.

Police begin to view the real cases with increased skepticism about the veracity of the claims. And whether they would publicly admit it or not, don't put the full force of their resources into the investigation.
Two female Chicago police officers I know (They're sisters I grew up near) told me this, and I don't doubt them.

I'm not concluding that the aforementioned case is one of those. But if it is, it's a shame that from hence, other similar LEGITIMATE incidents will be seen through a filter of doubt.
