Shakira's Body: 'Asking To Reproduce'

An open-shirted Shakira covers Rolling Stone's new issue. Inside, the 32-year-old singer, whose longtime boyfriend is investment banker Antonio de la Rua, talks about the "physical calling" of motherhood.

"My body feels like it is asking to reproduce, to have a huge belly and carry babies."

Shakira hopes to indulge her body's request if her third English album, "She Wolf," out November 23, makes her a true superstar in the U.S. She tells the magazine about the pressures of being a woman:

"You know, women have to make enormous efforts through life, much larger than men. We deal with so many pressures: the pressure of aesthetics, and how society wants us to deliver our performances as mothers, daughters and wives."

Ummm, since when has Shakira not been a true music superstar in the US?? She's been as big as anyone else for a few years now. She is 10x the singer and performer that J.Lo, Beyonce or Madonna ever could be.

Her singing style is grating and annoying and contrived, using machinery to cheat on notes. That said, I applaud her decision to stop singing for nine months (or more) to allow the public's ears to heal.

I agree with Isis, her pre-latest stuff is unenhanced and I prefer her voice that way. She's got an odd voice to be sure, but it works great and makes her unique. And it's not like she spent years at the nations foremost musical university studying to be a classical singer.

Look at that comedy troupe that does the "Auto-Tune The News" videos. They did one in which they used digital enhancements to peoples voices and made Congresswoman Michelle Backmann sound as good as Beyonce. Which Beyonce, J.Lo, Madonna, Mariah, etc, etc, they all use digital enhancements to make their voices sound better.

Since when did it become objectionable for a successful woman express a desire to become a mother? Not all women are on a path for just a career. There are some that wish to experience giving birth, and maintaining their own identity.

Any kid of Shakira's would be pretty damn lucky, I think.
