That's awesome news. I'll just offer my anecdotal evidence: I've taken New Chapter's Turmeric on and off for years. I never noticed any effect, good or bad.

curcumin(an powerful extract of turmeric), is also great for shrinking blood clots. my mother's been taking it for 2 months for clots in leg. along with cayenne, garlic (natural blood thinners)and tomatoes(another clot buster), the main huge acute femoral clot was gone and small nonlife threating ones remain. it has also helpes her arthritis because of anti-inflammatory properties. doctors are baffled because she was only on warfarin for 3 weeks, which made her very, very sick.

Oh man! This is awesome. I've been a curry-o-holic for years. My old roommate, who was from Northern India, always told me that the people back in India treat wounds with turmeric, and made food with it because they believed it healed them from the inside. I always kind of suspected that was just typical cultural myth, but apparently he was kind of right. I always just liked it because it was fun to cook with...mix yellow turmeric with oil, cook it in a pan, and it turns dayglow green.

this is not the first study to show anticancer or other beneficial effects of turmeric.

unfortuntely, it will be buried and forgotten by the medical establishment because turmeric is not effectively patentable, and so there is no way for them to make money from it.

this is the story with the entire world of natural medicine. effective , safe and affordable therapies are ignored or suppressed.

Curry is a mix of different spices w/ turmeric giving it that yellowish color. I'd advise adding some additional turmeric to your curry dishes

My oldest daughter with autism (i have three) is taking a curcumin supplement called Enhansa - she is talking more, more alert, better behaved in school and more "present" with us. Could be the anti-inflammatory properties helping her. I'm taking it myself now too - we have a family history of arthritis and I hope to ward it off. Look for the FDA to crack down on Indian restaurants any day now...

Very interesting, Kim. How did you first hear about Enhansa and is it readily available? I have chronic inflammation and would love something natural that could help.

Turmeric is also implicated in drastically reducing Alzheimer's too. Just by eating it! Very low incidence of it in India.

It's nice to see that some Western medical researchers are working to confirm what Ayurvedic and Chinese doctors have known for centuries.

The below link is to the Turmeric page from a resource and learning tool for physicians and health care practitioners around the world who want to learn practical ways of solving complex health problems using natural methods.

Asian Indian spices like turmeric, cumin, cayenne, fenugreek etc all have medicinal properties that are great for the human body.

This headline is totally misleading, it suggests that eating turmeric will cure cancer, which is far from what the article says. Shame on you for promoting bogus medical claims.

All the news story says is that a chemical found in turmeric when directly applied to cancer cells kills the cancer cells sometimes, and that they may be able to make medicine from it in the future that may have similar effects. It does not say, nor should anyone assume, that eating Turmeric will cure cancer or have any effect whatsoever on cancer.

You should always seek the best science based medical treatment from the best doctors, not ridiculous alternative treatments.

Go to PubMed http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/ - (PubMed comprises more than 19 million citations for biomedical articles from MEDLINE and life science journals. Citations may include links to full-text articles from PubMed Central or publisher web sites)

Do a search for turmeric and cancer or turmeric and dementia or turmeric and heavy metals; and you will get lots of biomedical research on those subjects.

AND, it also reduces inflammation...a very critical component in these days of H1N1. H1N1 inflames the lung tissue so taking it turmeric can be of great assistance.
