Europe does not need a president, be it Bliar or anyone else. I also note with interest that the Labour government will not allow a referendum in Britain on the Lisbon Treaty, since they are pretty sure it would be rejected. Time for Britain lo leave the EC now!

From what I can tell from the article - being George Bush's poodle does not appear to be a positive addition to one's resume.

I think the EU members have more sense than to elect Tony Blair as President. He makes no secret of the fact that he is extremely dishonest.

I'm still trying to figure out why he was selected as the representative for the Middle East Quartet.

Why would a man who has been fairly anti Europe think he can be president of the EU? He did his best to maintain Britain separate from the EU and now he wants to preside it. No way.

Blair should retire. Many are right. He does not represent Europe. While he's very articulate, he's spineless.

'NUREMBERG TONY'

TONY BLAIR AND TORTURE
Craig Murray - UK / USA use of Uzbek torture -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNYES8KOIqY

This single video may well be _the_ impetus for the war crimes trial of Tony Blair.

Craig Murray is an excellent speaker - funny, pointed and pithy. The video is _stunning_.

A devastatingly frank description of US / UK rendition, flying in non-Uzbek US / UK prisoners for torture and life -- and more death -- in the totalitarian hell that is Uzbekistan. Craig Murray explains how the Foreign Office, under Prime Minister Tony Blair, went along with UK/USA use of Uzbek torture, even going so far as to have some Mickey-Mouse lawyers okay the use of said torture - which, we may remember, included the boiling alive of prisoners.

BOILED ALIVE - FOR BRITAIN?
Uzbekistan the country where muslims are boiled to death. Picture - just like the rest of Tony Blair's handiwork - the corpse of the Uzbek muslim that was boiled alive - your tax dollars at work -- Warning - disturbing -

lol, europe is not divided over a Blair presidency. Only 2 people hope to see a Blair presidency, Blair and his Wife. And Im not sure about his wife.

Blair never stood a chance of being EU president and his fortunes in that direction have since declined.

The man is politcal h1n1 - no one will touch him for fear of catching it.

What a joke. Blair for EU president - next it'll be Bush for World Bank president or something.

I dont think Europe is that divided on this issue. And he has less then one third support in his own country.

In the UK both the liberal and conservatives agreethat they dont want Blair - but for different reasons.

The Guardian readers comment on how Blair should go to Europe - the Hague for war crimes actually.

The Conservative and Murdoch "The Times" dont want an EU, and talk about the Lisbon Treaty, and how they want the britsh citizents to vote on being part of the EU before they decide on president.

I agree with the Guardian asko . . . bliar should be sent to the Hague for war crimes . . .

I don't even think . . despite reports -- that Labour with very few exceptions wants bliar any more than the Lib Dems or the Tories do . . the general public don't want him either . . he is a disgrace

While the EU President will have considerable influence, it is in reality a non-executive role. The President will be responsible for convening and chairing council meetings, coordinating its work and acting as a spokesperson on the international stage. Remember that the Europeans prefer a parliamentary system of government.
Tony is the best choice if you want to tear the EU apart. If he is selected it will completely destroy any faith in the EU amongst most citizens by showing just how out of touch the elite are. Tony is a weak man, an EU President should be able to firmly stand by the EU's position and not make the whole of the EU America's lap dog the way Tony Blair allowed Bush to dictate Britain's policies. I do wonder what the position of EU President will have on western power dynamics.
I do not think there is a European political figure who is more loathed, despised or mistrusted than this New Crusader.
Why not propose Robert Mugabe as World Economic President, since he has an excellent track record in economic management?
