Jessica Simpson

Jessica Simpson describes her dream man in an interview with 'Extra' to air Friday. He's intellectual, spiritual, artistic and confident.

'Extra' released the following statement:

When asked about the three things she looks for in a guy, Simpson, 29, tells "Extra," "I definitely love a spiritual man -- somebody that is going to always inspire me."

The singer -- who split from Tony Romo in July -- goes on, "I don't want to get bored. I can bore out pretty easily, so I love intellectual men ... people that will always keep me intrigued."

"And, you know, I love artistic men -- somebody that really understands their art," adds Simpson, who dated musician John Mayer and was married to Nick Lachey.

"I like a confidant man," she asserts.

Simpson says traveling the world for her new VH1 show, "The Price of Beauty," was exactly what she needed after calling it quits with Romo.

"I couldn't have had this journey at a better time in my life -- to seek out beauty, to seek out confidence, and to seek out the power of a woman."

Simpson -- who has faced criticism for her fluctuating weight -- also tells "Extra" she's finally comfortable in her own skin.

"It really is about who I am and what I want to become, and what's going to make the best version of myself," the singer says.

She continues, "What people say about me... all that stuff is not really important."

It's a bit of a fallacy and tautology that many people, esp. women, are looking for high intelligence/intellect, as said and written in women’s personal ads repeatedly. Really? Intelligence is relative; I think what people want is someone they don't consider intellectually inferior. Analogously, everyone wants someone physically attractive—to them, a tautology. Many people have a lower acceptable limit, but no upper bound. “Not attractive enough” exists but not "too attractive." (By definition). There’s a lower limit re: brains: “Not smart enough.” But I think there's a "too smart" upper bound for most. Someone with an IQ of 90 likely won’t feel very comfortable or happy with another whose IQ is 140, and vice-versa.

In personals a guy can acceptably say he’s tall, athletically built, has a lucrative/high-status profession, various degrees, is (and show) he’s a model--very good looks attract much attention from women, volunteers helping disabled children, or all sorts of “desirable/admirable” things. Would a man have hordes of women contact him, if he, truly, has or says he has a genius-level IQ? No. Talking about one’s own intelligence as extraordinary—even if objectively true—is generally very obnoxious and unacceptable.

If most women were really serious about wanting really smart men as a very high priority, it would be a different world. Simpson, female models, and many women would troll Ivy League faculty parties for dates. Women, like men, want someone not too unintelligent, not too intelligent (relatively).

Jessica, I'm available.

I'm not seeing "intellectual" or "erudite" in any of the words she used, so there's no reason to flame out on her. Even if she had used those words, who's to say that her public persona doesn't differ markedly from her true self? I certainly don't know. (Nor do I care. The headline was intriguing, but misleading in order to generate page-views.)

Most of the comments here assume that she is either a) super-stupid; or b) super-smart.

None of us really knows her IQ, and it's not even at issue in what she said. Let the woman be.

I agree. Most are really making judgments about this woman based upon the negativism of the press about her. Those fantasy people that the media makes up, I am confident, bear no resemblance to the actual person.

I really didn't have an opinion of her in the past but always read negative press and noticed she was always portrayed as a "dumb blonde". Well I saw her a few weeks ago selling her goods on QVC. She was with another woman who I guess was a partner and the two of them giggled almost the entire time. The host was extremely professional and tried to keep it under control and act like she was giggling along with them while still taking phone calls and describing the goods. Jessica had no intelligent comments to make and it was almost embarrasing to watch her! I can say I have now formed an opinion of her. She definitely needs an intellectual man!

Here's how dumb Jessica is......she's got millions, owns her own company, is know worldwide, and is beautiful and talented. Her detractors sit on their fat a.sses in their bathrobes or sweats, eating their bags of candy and potato chips, and get on their computer and take the time to criticize her.

Her 'dumb' is an act. To her detractors, their 'dumb' comes naturally.

Could not agree more. You need to help Gerry S. (down below) grasp this concept.

No offense but that does not speak of her intelligence so much as her management and financial backings. There are plenty of people who are in such positions and have no intelligence whatsoever they were just blessed by circumstances.

I don't think it's an act, her father also makes my skin crawl so.

Men are drawn to women physically. We all are aware of this regardless of intellect. I believe that women tell themselves otherwise to make themselves feel better (i.e. a truly intelligent man couldn't possibly be truly attracted to or sustain a relationship with a beautiful young less intelligent woman) especially women who happen to be lacking in the looks department but are bestowed with more intellect.

The reality is intellectual men if given the opportunity would jump at the chance to be with a sexy beautiful non-intellectual woman just as much as other men who are less intelligent.

The fact that Jessica Simpson wants an intellgent man, well that is not suprising as often two people are not paired up perfectly. One is usually lacking in something (i.e. looks, intelligence, motivation, optimism etc.) and we are usually attracted to the person who fills in the parts we are missing.

To all you s***bags who have no idea about her intellect - Jessica is gorgeous, successful, seemingly a decent person, and ubiquitous. No wonder you mock her, you covet her job and life.

I'm sure she can get an 'intelllectual' man, because a lot of guys with high IQs are also attracted to the barbie-doll type. However, whether she'll be able to hold a conversation with said guy...? No evidence in this article.
