The problem is simply too massive to be promoting a gradual reduction in single-use disposable plastics. Every 5 minutes, 2 million plastic bottles are thrown away, using 750 million gallons of crude oil per year. In the U.S. only 20% of those bottles are recycled.

No. Here in CA, we have curb-side recycling that most everyone uses, but the truth is that big business doesn't want to recycle, so in many / most communities they merely mix it all together and throw it in our landfills. Disgraceful.

I've heard of that problem, but I see lots of empty bottles just thrown in trash cans in public areas.
