Sting: Obama Best Person To Handle World's 'Mess'

NEKESA MUMBI MOODY   10/29/09 04:06 PM ET   AP

Sting

NEW YORK — Sting isn't a religious man, but he says President Barack Obama might be a divine answer to the world's problems.

"In many ways, he's sent from God," he joked in an interview, "because the world's a mess."

But Sting is serious in his belief that Obama is the best leader to navigate the world's problems. In an interview on Wednesday, the former Police frontman said that he spent some time with Obama and "found him to be very genuine, very present, clearly super-smart, and exactly what we need in the world."

"I can't think of anyone better qualified because of his background, his education, particularly in regard to Islam," he said.

Still, Sting acknowledged the president had a "difficult job" ahead of him.

The British singer, who released the seasonal album "On A Winter's Night" this week, said he's fascinated by American politics, Obama, and also by Obama's opponents on the right.

"It's aggressive and violent and full of fear," he said of the backlash against Obama. "They don't want change, they want things to feel the same because they feel safe there."

Sting, 58, said he's hopeful that the world's problems can be dealt with, but is frustrated that "we seem to be living in a currency of medieval ideas."

"My hope is that we can start talking about real issues and not caring about whether God cares about your hemline or your color," he said. "We are here to evolve as one family, and we can't be separate anymore."

I think Sting,Bon Jovi and Springsteen should all learn how to play decent music before trying to solve the worlds problems.Along with the rest of you Progressive Liberal Left Wing Radicals who can't solve the problems..You ARE the problem!

Well done, Sting. The world does go forward despite regressive elements in the American south and the outbacks of Utah and Wyoming. As you say, there's a tremendous amount of fear on the far-right fringe, but as for real activity they aren't doing much except beating themselves into a froth. The real action is all forward, coming from the administrative center of the government, supported by Americans across the country, forming a broad mainstream. America is far less backward than the far right would have you believe with their screaming and frank paranoia.

Of course, if Obama could have come to office directly after Clinton--and had a huge surplus to work with instead of the huge deficit he got from Bush/Cheney--and not had Bush/Cheney's failed wars to clean up after, and not had Bush/Cheney's trashing of America's world reputation to raise America back up from--then we'd be moving ahead quite a lot faster. As it is, you're right: there's a mess to fix.

Was the Movie Sting really subliminally about The Bush Administration. Was Raw shank really about bernie
or was The Coo Coo's nest realy about The Pharma.

the word messiah means annointed One.
Nobody died in the fall of man soo better word for Ressurrection would be REFORM.
I know there was a reformation already You Know with Luther and the ninty five thesis and all that. Then we had a Renesaince with Art And Reason and Philosophy and all that.

Then the Berlin wall fell down with no Communist Euthopian Revelotion . America won the cold war and the Arms race . Now we have eight Countries with Nukes that cant feed their people nationalising thier Economies and have no jobs all Fighting A Militant Gihad of Islamic Terrorism.

Where were there they for the last forty years . How come they are only showimg up now. Moses said don't put your offering on the alter of God before you reconsile with your brother. ishmael was the first son of the Father of Jewish faith. Lets get this thing full circle Sting is right. We are all connected..East west can no longer live in Parrell I think we must jam the new music . The World direction is ONE.

Our giant has kicked over the sleepy-hollow, status-quo, heads-in-the-sand, theo-conservatudes, ant colony. Predictably, out they scurry in aimless revenge, screaming and shouting, pinning all their hopes on weeping t.v. demagogues.

The ants need to stop their rampage, settle down, and help the giant gardener tend our fields. They need to man-up, take responsibility for all the neglect they let their leaders inflicted upon us. If they could do that, then, that would be Evolution in it's most rare form, and yet, it's evolution we could all believe in.

Hey zippy, Sting has more intelligence and worldliness than your feeble mind could ever begin to fathom. No one knows what God thinks, nor does anyone have any evidence he exists. Religion is the refuge for those who are too weak-minded to educate themselves. Usually, religious zealots have no other motivation than to save themselves (a totally selfish act) and therefore ignore the call to enhance the lives of others (unless it is to help those who agree with their viewpoints). To hide your hatred of others behind the flag of religion, is nothing more than using God as your personal tool to rationalize your irrationality and justify your laziness or inability to elevate yourself to a higher plane of thinking. To think that God wants us to kill each other in his name is the epitome of insanity. Do you really believe that God (if he exists) would be consumed with the worst attributes (fear, jealousy and vengeance) of humanity? After all, if God exists, he is older than time itself and one would be inclined to think that he is way beyond the pettiness of our worst characteristics.

You speak as if you are someone who knows something about me. News flash....you don't know a single thing about me, so stop running your flap. You don't know what I think or believe, so keep your assumptions to yourself.

We can't be separate anymore he says as he puts down anyone who isn't on the Obama bandwagon. He says we should not worry about what God thinks, who cares what Sting-a-ling thinks? Stick to music.

Sting puts his finger exactly on the nexus of American politics today. The Old Guard (mostly Republican) is clinging to politics-as-usual and the status quo. Our president is trying to move in a new direction - which will come, regardless of who leads it. This is a new age, a new century, and the Old Guard is just that - old. It's past time to turn the page and start a new chapter.

There is no political solution
for our troubled evolution
have no faith in constitution
there's no bloody revolution

Our so-called leaders speak
with words they try to jail you
they subjugate the meek
but it's the rhetoric of failure

Where does the answer lie?
We live from day to day
If it's something we can't buy
there must be another way

Sting is correct, Obama has a ton of problems and if anyone can handle the mess he was left with, it is him.
06:10 AM on 10/30/2009
Europeans are laughing at you, not with you!

Obama expands wars, yet the power brokers deem it logical to award him
the Nobel for peace. Does any American see the irony? You're being taxed
into oblivion but Sting believes that's alright too, agreement by omission.

Obama was placed in the White House by the Market Riggers, the same
folks looking after Sting's fortune. This endorsement is far more than one
man's opinion. He's looking after his own nest egg, which isn't valued in
plungeing dollars and fully depends on outside manipulations.

America was a great country that was admired if not loved by the entire
world. The Executive Branch is changing all that by saying one thing
and doing quite the opposite. Specifically, by kiiling people in places
few people had ever heard of.

In Sting's opinion, killing people is good. Would anyone care to set me
straight on that?

Oh, one more thing. When Sting and I were neighbours, he was always
charming. Like the guy with a flute in front of a cobra.
03:07 AM on 11/02/2009
Actually, Obama was placed in office by 63.25 Million American voters--more votes than any candidate in US history. Along with sweeping Republicans out of every branch of US government.

I'd say that argues for mainstream Americans putting President Obama in office--

I don't know who these mysterious 'market riggers' are you are referring to--but unless there are 63.25 Million of them....

Why don't you go on the Fox News website and spread you message of love there? Tell all those who hate Obama because he's half African that they're wrong. Tell those who call him a communist or compare him to Hitler that they're wrong. They are the ones who really need your guidance because they're consumed with hate and fear and ignorance.
