White House Halloween Destination For Trick-Or-Treat

WASHINGTON — Add this to the list of duties for President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle: having enough candy to satisfy 2,000 trick-or-treaters banging on the White House door.

The White House said Friday the Obamas will give a Halloween welcome to hundreds of children from schools in Washington and the surrounding Maryland and Virginia suburbs. The trick-or-treaters will come to the front door on Saturday just as they would at any other house – except it will be the soaring North Portico of the White House.

Later, the president and first lady, as well as Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, are hosting a Halloween reception for military families and the children of White House and residence staff.

Ot does look like the Obama;s were serious about the White House belonging to the people of the US. It has been too long since the common person/kid could be a part of the 1600 Penn. address. I remember reading so much about Lincoln opening the doors to people who were in need or wanted his attention. We cannot do that even in this day due to the very assasinations that began with his. That the public is made aware through the media of this happening as well as those before who did the same at the same address just makes the people who live in the White House more human, with kids.

Michelle is such a natural with children--she really is having fun with holidays. Too bad Malia and Sasha have to be kept away from all this (for their own benefit, but too bad nevertheless).

My understand was that Malia and Sasha were there but allowed them to enjoy the time without having to post for cameras. I'm sure there will pictures today of them in their costumes.

I saw an article on the event. That was a really cool gesture by the President and the first lady. I hope the kids took pics and will then frame them for quite a story later in life.

The coolest story I have heard about Obama was the note he wrote to a teacher for some kid that was going to be late or was missing school due to meeting the President. Anyone remember that? Someone on here said that note would be worth a lot of money someday and I said it would be a priceless story and souvenier, so that child should keep it.

What a fun thing to do. One of those little things that I hadn't thought about the Obama's missing out on. Seeing little kids in costume, having a fun, silly time is a joy that can't help but bring a smile to our faces. (We had an AMAZING Gene Simmons of KISS come to our door this evening. He got a special bonus share of candy from us!)

I believe that she has spoken about moderation in eating treats. I'm sure they'll give out the traditional candy while talking about the importance of brushing teeth and getting exercise as well. That's what's very cool about Michelle, she's very real.

Anyway, Halloween is what treats are for--it's kids having candy all the time that is bad. It's just awful that you could read about this delightful event and find something to carp about. Pathetic.
