Kim Jong-Il Double Fooled Bill Clinton, Japanese Analyst Says

ABC News:

A number of analysts here are convinced that not all the photos being released of North Korea's leader, Kim Jong-il, are really photos of Kim Jong-il.

Instead, they say, a look-alike has been standing in for him on some of the 122 trips he's reportedly made this year to the countryside, factories, cultural events, military units, and all sorts of other venues.

Some observers say the North Korean leader is too ill to make all these appearances. One Japanese analyst claims President Clinton didn't meet with Kim Jong-il in August -- he met with a Mr. Kim double.

So What! They could have blown up a rubber Kim Jong-Il and propped him up in that chair. Clinton didn't go over there to talk to him. He got what he wanted and came home. I didn't hear him mention Kim once. This is another non-story.

What is not revealed here is that the apparent "Bill Clinton" is actually an inflated likeness of him. Reportedly both he and Jong were on a private "tour" of some of Pyong Yang's bawdier establishments during the photo opportunity. Moreover, this instance is indicative of a larger tendency to replace heads of state with stand-ins or, in Clinton's case, the equivalent of a holiday parade balloon reproducing a favored likeness. As such, it is now apparent that certain political figures whom we regard as gasbags are, literally, gasbags - manipulated as with a marionette and programmed to say reassuring things.
