My daughter and i love the Wii. If you want Mario Brothers and stuff like that then get an XBox, Nintendo, PlayStation. But if you want to exercise because you can't afford the gym or play non brutal games then I highliy recommend the Wii. We just purchased the "Big Loser" for the Wii (reality TV show) and BOY does it give you a workout. My daughter really works hard on it and I love the games and the exercising.
Developers have failed to come up with worthwhile games to take advantage of the Wii's novelty. Most of the games are painfully dull, half-a55ed, slapped-together jobs that don't make compelling use of the system's controls.
To the developers defense, the system controls weren't that good in the first place. Nintendo even has a majority of their games using waggle controls, which doesn't even come close to using the controllers full potential. We will see how the Wii Motion Plus changes that, but another add-on for 20 bucks will make you pay 80 dollars to have a fully functioning controller. A tad expensive if you ask me.
If you are to play wii, you must play on a large screen to get the feel of "real action". A 32" won't do. I play tennis on a 100" projection screen. I got a pretty good sweat every time I play and I play it everyday with my girlfriend.
is anyone surprised? the market is saturated, games are expensive and there aren't enough new high quality games coming out. Also gaming is moving to mobile platforms like the iPhone and Android. the tv console business will shrink as more people play games on their phones.
thats totally wrong. The console and phone gaming market are totally different audiences. The reason the Wii sales are dropping is because they haven't released any games worth buying in almost a year.
of course nobody is saying that hardcore game addicts will stop playing shooter games on a pc or an xbox to play a simplified version on a phone. But the reality is that the push for mobile platforms will take its toll on the main console business. Most casual gaming will move to mobile platforms.
I have to laugh. My parents, godbless'em, bought a wii so they could get some easy exercise for their aching muscles & joints. A year after it sat next to the TV still in the box, my husband hooked it up for them & showed them how to work it. Before the end of the weekend, it was packed back into the box to collect dust with all their other exercise equipment. ****sigh***** these parents today!
it's not your parents, you a good kid for trying, ... it's that the video game is lame... a play station three would have gotten much more use...
I have played my Wii for maybe an hour since I got it. I played others before and always liked it, but it's only good with a lot of people.
Though, the main deterrent might just how great EA's NHL games are on the Xbox.
I did the same thing. I was all excited to get the Wii... then promptly never played it.
For some reason, I just can't get into console gaming. I always end up just playing games on my computer.
the wii's "success" has always been a mistery to me.. maybe it was kind of made up (you know like MAC and Harley etc..), you can't expect video games that have graphics that look dated and back step in tech. to move forward... as much as you they try wii will not break home gaming out of the mook demo.
The graphics do look dated, but the tech is hardly a step backward. It's the most groundbreaking tech in video games in decades. There's a large segment of the population that doesn't need gore and profanity on their video games to enjoy them. It doesn't break my heart that junk like Grand Theft Auto isn't common place fare on the wii. As the parent of young children, the wii was a godsend in the gaming industry.
The Mac's success is largely based on the fact that it is a superior computer in every way. Not too many games out there for it, though. Gamers need not apply. It's for people who want to work and not spend all their time trying to figure out why their PC won't function properly.
yeah.. thank you for the input.. I have known several people with wii's and apple items and they always do and have ended up shelving them in less than a year.. we can see that they were trying for a female market and it seemed to work - but the market is much more shallow than the mook demo...
Sometimes I'll see a trailer of a movie on TV that just makes it look freaking awesome so I'll go see the movie and after paying 12+ bucs I'll think it wasn't so bad, but later I come to realization that it wasn't that good and I should have not seen it and that I just liked the commercials because it told me the movie was good... PC's are fine you are just repeating what you have been told - PC's don't have any more bugs than MACS and stay current for longer, think of how much less advertising PC's do and how many more people own them,... I have never seen a mac do something that a PC can't - trying to tell Mac users this is like trying to sweep back the ocean.. They are just to invested - like I was when I exited the theater from that bad movie.... I think that movie was the first prequel for star wars - turned out it is arguably the worse movie ever...
you know why its slumping? because its games are completely BORING!!! I havent played my wii in 6 months and havent bought a new game in a year, there is nothing good on the market..
the only game im kind of excited about is coming out in 2010...the wii is boring...a bunch of kiddy cartoon games and crap flying boring tennis shooting arrow games...its not fun.
And the wii fit is a joke, I bought it and the only thing that actually causes some exercise is the hula hooping....I could have bought a real hulahoop for 1/10 the price..
Odds are you cannot even name one recent game release. Nor did you ever bother to look up the wiiware releases or vc reelases.
You never played Madworld, Dead Space Extraction, House of the Dead: Overkill, none of the rpgs for the system either.
I don't think you pay attention to the game market very much. Even though one of the games you mentioned is good (Madworld), those games are not system sellers at all. Most of the people that bought the system were soccer moms, or impulse buyers, who were solely interested in Wii Sports, and possibly Wii Fit.
Just because the games are somewhat good doesn't mean they sell a lot either. Madworld didn't sell very much, neither has Dead Space (which was based off of a pretty successful title already).
It really is a shame, after people got done with Wii Sports it kind of just got dusty after that. The fad is over...
Personally, I'd rather go to a real bowling alley or tennis court, or play hoops with my kids in the driveway. It's loads more fun!
Of course the sales will plummet when almost everyone in the world has it.
Yeah, this is just market saturation.
Another issue may be how close in price the XBox and PS3 now are. I think those two will have good sales... but a lot of it is because their installed base isn't as high as the Wii.
even though the sales are slumping. it's still outselling the ps3/xbox worldwide.
And making a profit. Nintendo themselves have said the slump is due to them not putting out certain games at certain times of the year. Plus they and the third parties don't do enough or any tv advertising.
Their third party games are garbage.
