Bill Gates' Birthday: Bono Serenades Gates In Song (VIDEO)

See video below

Bill Gates turned 54-years-old October 28, and celebrated his birthday at the U2 concert in Vancouver B.C., TechFlash reports.

A lot of guys might celebrate entering their mid-fifties by going to a rock concert--but Bill Gates isn't most guys, and his celebration was anything but average.

U2 singer Bono not only sung Bill Gates a rendition of "happy birthday", but led the entire stadium in song. Watch it below!

TechFlash writes:

"Without him, and without his business, we just wouldn't be where we are today. It's his birthday today. Bill Gates is in the house," Bono said, before leading the cheering crowd in a rendition of "Happy Birthday."

"A pretty sweet birthday salute," says our former Seattle P-I colleague John Marshall, who was there and filled us in on what happened.

See Bill Gates through the ages here!

It's interesting that Bono, a guy who continually fights to end poverty and starvation in third world nations, is willing to shamelessly serenade Bill Gates, a guy who endorses and financially supports the spread of GMO crops in Africa, which is almost certain to INCREASE both poverty and malnutrition on that continent!

Nice job Bono! Whats next, are you going to be singing at Monsanto's company picnic? Or maybe joining the G8 for a game of golf?

I love how people talk about the foundation and all the good they're doing with the money, but casually ignore how that money was earned.

U2 may have been doing the set, but Bill Gates is trying to buy a Stairway to Heaven.

I live in Seattle, and see with my own eyes the good work that The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation does. They provide BILLIONS of dollars to schools from daycare to universities, they fund non-profit research institutions, they fund technology and community intiatives all throughout the US and the World. He has a reputation in Seattle of being a gracious, modest, kind, and obviously generous man. If you really want to whine about something, why don't you focus your efforts on the people who run their business shrewdly but do not give back more to the planet than they have taken away.

Good post.

As a Mac & Linux user, I don't have much use for Microsoft (except for XBox), but Bill Gates is being very responsible with his wealth.

Remember, in 2005 Bono was named one of Time's "People of the Year" along with Bill & Melinda Gates for their humanitarian efforts. Like 'em or not, they have done some very good work.

But yeah, I saw the Rose Bowl show and it was a big fat YouTube video. Very disappointing.

What's with all the hate here? Both the Gates family and Bono have been very active in philanthropic activities and sharing their money with others, locally and worldwide. It is sad that their contributions cannot be acknowledged and cheered rather than just hateful comments on their business plans and/or talent. I for one admire both of these men and the good works that they do for so many.

The unabashed hate....I love Bono, but these stories about Bill Gates are troublesome.

Years ago I saw U2 playing for change on the street in Temple Bar, Dublin. They weren't very good back then either.

Yeah, right. What was their set list?

I remember they were playing a Dylan tune. A Dublin actor friend of mine pointed them out said they had a chance for the big time if they could get the right agent. Two years later, while living in Frisco, they came to town and made a big brouhaha playing downtown, and the rest was history. Never liked their bombastic stadium thing.

Bono and Gates deserve each other.

I can't believe how lame U2 sound now. They used to be really good!
