AMERICAblog Gay :

Funny thing (or not), OFA forgot to tell Mainers what issues are on the ballot and how to vote on those issues. For example, there's no mention of Question 1, the measure to repeal Maine's marriage equality law - i.e., repeal gay marriage - in the email (really big surprise, huh?)

Right. But see, this is that "fierce advocate" brand of silence. So much better than the plain old garden variety brand of silence.

It is time now, right now to say we have enough!
As as family, living without rights in the America we love is reprehensible, outrageous and will never be acceptable.
I am speaking up right now for my family as a gay man with a partner of many decades, a daughter and two grandsons that I will never accept the in-equality we suffer under, and i think those who try to diminish our in-equality are without any sense of justice. I reject the hate and idiocy lobbied against us, The idea that MY RIGHTS CAN BE VOTED AWAY!
I am standing up, right here and now to say this situation is WRONG and I will never accept it as LONG AS I LIVE! NEVER!!!!

It is time we stand together and say enough. We will no longer be second class citizens. We will no longer support of fund hate and discrimination. Being treated with the same rights as any other United States citizen is not a wish, not special, but a right. Heterosexuals are doing a fine job on their own destroying marriages. After all over 50% end in divorce within 5 years. If I can't have equal rights and must be a second class citizen, then give me lower taxes to match.

Not really a surprise. We all know Obama is homophobic and he pursued the gay community in the last election only because of its money. The few times he spoke favorably after he won were only when his fundraisers were threatened by disheartened gay groups.

Maine was a major victory for Obama.

Thanks for nothing, Barry. You can go shove it where you just don't love it.

As a handsome 38-year-old stockbroker, I must clarify something: President Obama loves g@y people -- if they work for Goldman Sachs.

I wonder what he would do if Sasha or Malia is a lesbian.

Probably the same thing Cheney did. Wait till he left office to speak up.

If the GLBT community wants equal rights they need to take the gloves off and attack their greatest enemy, the religious community. It has to be total war or else it won't work.

One more item of shame about this President's claim to being our "fierce Advocate"

He is our fierce Advocate only when we hold his feet to the fire and threaten to dry up the Gay ATM. Then he is very willing to throw us a speech at that Uncle Tom HRC or write a couple of easily done policy changes. The Hate Crimes Bill he leaves to Congress without any support and signs like it was his idea all along. But there is no way he will tackle anything that requires real work and commitment. DADT has to wait till some time in the future. DOMA? Don't even think about that.

The enitre world does not revolve around you as a gay person.
You just think it does.

We are not children. We get tired of being treated as such and when we finally speak all we get is "wait your turn". So now since we figured out everything is about money, then we will use that to our advantage. For folks like you, we have also learned to just ignore you and give you our collective middle finger.

As opposed to the religeous right (which is really neither religeous nor right, discuss).

The entire world doesn't revolve around your Roman Catholic religious beliefs, either.

I just voted this morning in Va. As a gay man everyone assumes that I will vote Democrat. Guess what? Didn't happen! Until the Democrats support me I'm not supporting them.

I vote this afternoon and I have only three Democrats I will vote for. All of which support gay equality in my state.

The rest? Well I am done supporting them until they stand up to support me. Frankly I don't really care about their inner city, liberal or environmental causes until I can protect my husband and myself with a few basic rights.

Good for you, an act of conscience. But I wouldn't choose Gop over Dem, or vice versa, as they are both one-in-the-same.

As opposed to the GOP candidate that was supportive of gay rights?

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:18 AM on 11/03/2009

Only voted for candidates that support gay equality. Which in my case was only one vote. Yes I got up early and went to the vote for one democrat. I didn't vote for the republicans but I also didn't vote for the other democrats. I think I had met all of the candidates at different gay events locally and around the state. Here in VA they want our vote but will not vote to support us. I think my biggest disappointment was Steve Shannon. He had been to quite a few Equality Fairfax events but when it came time to vote on the marriage amendment he voted against us. Now Steve is running for Attorney General and once again wants the gay vote. With the democrats that we have who needs republicans?

That's the only thing the Democrats respect (if that).
