So... the Republicans threaten to boycott the passage of the bill, until a full economic and job affect analysis can be done... is that right? Well.. can we boycott something near and dear to the Republican's hearts (that is, if you can find any that actually have them,) until we do a cost analysis on losing coastlines all around the world when all the oceans rise, until we do a cost analysis on the rising cases of heat-loving illnesses that will ravage the moderate-climate countries, until we do a cost analysis on the corn-belt's destruction in the mid-west (along with the destruction of our country's ability to feed itself?) This list is much longer, but you get the drift. What the Repubs are trying to do, is save pennies, so the nation (and the world,) can go bankrupt. You think the latest economic blip was something? We ain't seen nothing yet! We have to stop this finger-pointing. Now. When it comes right down to it, it really doesn't matter who or what is to blame. If we have the power and the will to fix this problem , we should do it. No if, ands, or buts. We, as a species, are certainly shortsighted when it comes to doing what's in our own best interest.

I think the Repubs should boycott the entire government. Stop going to meetings, hearings, stop meeting with constituents. They could just sit back and forget they were ever elected. Then maybe people who are serious about this country can get something done without the constant barrage of whining and moaning from the right.

God said that humans cannot destroy the earth.

Republicans don't understand the basic science involved in climate change.

If they did understand it, they would reject it on religious ideological grounds.

So when you add that level of ignorance to a political party which places corporate donors with a vested interest in continuing environmentally damaging business practices, their behaviour and conduct is obvious.
09:17 PM on 11/02/2009
repooblicans don't understand...basic MATH.

The committee has 12 Dems (well, 11 actually, since baucus no longer counts as a Dem)....and 7 repoobs...who are all "threatening" to play hooky (now THERE'S a great example to set for ALL Americans, eh ?).

Thus, only 10 votes are needed to get the bill out of committee.....

So, the Dems could lose one more of their own and still finish the markup.

Um, what...leverage...exactly...do the repoobs think they have here ?
09:23 PM on 11/02/2009
Correction to my own post below: Dems don't even need to proceed with the markup: Senate rules only dictate that 2 repoobs need be present if the bill undergoes a markup.

Just to get it out of committee, the Dems don't need any repoobs present at all, just vote on the bill as currently drafted.

Then they can change it when they reconcile it with the House version...which puts it in Reids court again, like the Healthcare Reform bill.

No need whatsoever to bend to these stupid, childish antics. Just get the 10 Dems to pass the bill as written. Then change it later to jive with the House version.

Period.

The Republican goal is to destroy government. It isn't to participate in a fashion that is at all constructive. The goal is to destroy government, the country and the world. I guess they think it will make Jesus come back.

the government we have now must be destroyed in order for America to remain free.

How's all that non-participation working out for you, GOP?
08:29 PM on 11/02/2009
Good that means that they might be able to get something donr. They were not planning on adding anything so at least they will be out bopthering someone else. You will only have to listen to the crybaby "why isn't there bi-partisanship" whine after legislation gets built.

I love watching the lunatics on the right implode. They crap in their own nest and think they are so cool for wallowing in it.
07:51 PM on 11/02/2009
I think the Democratic Party should beat them at there own game,
and just ban the Rethuglicans from Capitol Hill, altogether, until they grow up.
08:12 PM on 11/02/2009
They appear to have banned themselves; I don't think I have ever seen a more egregious abrogation of responsibilities as displayed by the Republicans since this administration commenced. First they wanted "more time" to debate the healthcare bill and could not see any reason for urgency; now they want "more time" for the energy bills again because there is no urgency. Funnily enough they felt the urgency when McCain decided to suspend his campaign last year to rush back for a vote on the money to be generously handed to their friends on Wall St. They truly disgust me.

The Cap & Tax bill is ridiculous and is nothing more than a Money and Power grab by the government. It will do nothing to change the climate but it will redistribute the wealth of the country. If the UN has it's way they will take our money and spread it to third world countries in the name of climate control, which it will do nothing to change it.

Obviously the problerm with Republican politicians, Global Warming deniers, covert Fascists, indigenous Taliban,
Tea Baggers, Birthers and other oddities of that ilk is that there is undoubtedly a lack of brain cells in their frontal lobes combined with a mix-up in their brains' neurological links and stirred "liberally" with hatred and greed, making them, of course, completely incapable of any rational thought.
