Palin

McClatchy :

The envy of nearly every other first-time author, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's good fortune includes an advance upward of $1.25 million, an appearance on Oprah Winfrey's talk show the day before publication, and a print run of 1.5 million books for a memoir that already sits on bestseller lists.

So it's no surprise that in the weeks leading up to the Nov. 17 release date of "Going Rogue: An American Life," there are plenty of other authors hoping that they, too, can sell a few books in Palin's slipstream.

Fuzzy Math Behind Palin Book

Sarah Palin must be praying that her Monday appearance on Oprah will lead to a slot on the talk show maven's book list. In spite of a rumored 400,000-plus first print run for Palin’s memoir, Going Rogue: An American Life, which comes out Tuesday, November 17, the Daily Finance crunches a slew of numbers to reveal that HarperCollins might not want to bank on the book. Palin made the book deal last May, has received a $1.25 million retainer, and is expected to receive up to a $7 million advance, by the time Going Rogue arrives next week. Factoring in actual versus projected print runs for paperback and hardcover copies, Amazon—Wal-Mart—Target discount sales, ghostwriting fees, and the potential total payment to Palin, the Daily Finance claims that HarperCollins will need to sell more than 400,000 copies of the book just to break even—and that’s only if Palin’s total advance was a measly $5 million.

There is something seriously wrong with a country that:
1. declares a book a bestseller based on orders by distributers and not actual sales. How is a book that is not for sale yet, a bestseller?
2. that accepts a book written by a ghost writer as an autobiography. I believe this book to be an authorized biography. Palin can't talk straight let alone write.

..and none of this matters because it's all about the money for Ms. Palin.

Forget about her books, her antics, her comments, her speeches. For once give this woman the attention she deserves, which is absolutely none. As an American I am ashamed that this woman was ever allowed to run for VP. The HP should forget about her and bury the memory of her. It would be doing this country a great service if everyone did that.. Having her in the spotlight is like America continually airing its dirty laundry. What you should remember and cogitate about is not what this wretch is up to now, but what is the flaw in our political system that allowed such an unqualified shameless individual to run for VP of the US. More importantly, you should also consider what kind of political party is the GOP to support a candidate like this.

Check Amazon.com - there actually is a "Going Rouge" coloring and activity book for $12 - which is $3 more than the price of SP's book.

A couple of weeks ago I was shopping in Costco and saw a huge stack of Glenn Beck's latest diatribe and it p1ssed me off to see they were displaying any. Went again yesterday and there was still a huge stack. Hope it means they're not selling. They seem to carry all the righwingnut books.

Palin is a First Time Author?

I could be wrong... but didn't somebody else write this book?

Palin took the two thoughts she had and told it to a ghost writer who stretched it into 400 pages... I would not call her a first time author.
