TNT Picks Up "Southland," Canceled By NBC

NEW YORK — Cable network TNT says it has rescued the shot-down NBC cop drama "Southland" and will bring it back in the new year.

Beginning Jan. 12, TNT will broadcast all six episodes that were shot by NBC for its aborted second season, as well as the seven episodes from the first season.

Produced by John Wells of "ER" fame, "Southland" won good reviews but not-so-good ratings when it premiered last spring on NBC. It was renewed for this fall, but NBC canceled it before its October return.

Set in Los Angeles, the gritty drama stars Ben McKenzie, Regina King and Tom Everett Scott.

Once again basic cable proves it is the best entertainment value for the dollar.

But:

Rerunning the ifrst 7 episodes of Southland and airing the 6 in the can, great!

What comes next? After these 13 are shown will there be more episodes produced?

How about bringing back also:

A fantastic show which NBC axed in order to make room for the utterly useless Jay Leno gets a second chance.
I'm happy for the actors and writers on this show who put out such an unbelievably good product week after week during the first season.

This is great news. I love this show. NBC is running out of good will with me. Law & Order: SVU is the only reason I watch that channel at this point.

They pick up Life too. That was the best show on TV for the last two years imo.

Now I'm pi$$ed about it being cancelled all over again. Damian Lewis was fantastic in Life. There ar so few decent shows on television, and I'm reluctant to start watching any new ones because if they're not based in reality they get cancelled. I don like Flash Forward though, and its already been renewed.

So what does NBC have left? I can't remember the last time I watched that network.

I read today that TLC hired NBC to do an "interview" segment for their Kate to the eighth power minus Jon show....how sad that NBC has sunk that low.

Seriously! Ever since Scrubs went to ABC the closest I get to watching NBC is watching msnbc and the occasional episode of SNL if I get home when it's still on.
