The GOP have made it clear that the insurance companies are their top priority! All they do is complain about the COSTS! Well, my question to them is - what is the price of an American life?

My fundamental take on US health care reform-

"NO NATION THAT PROFESSES TO BE CIVIL OR MORAL WOULD NOT AT LEAST PROVIDE FOR BASIC HEALTH CARE FOR ALL OF IT'S CITIZENS"-ral

Why the US is so far behind in recognizing that reality puzzles me? All I can think of is that we are a young nation- still growing up?

Also our new young President is on the line here. He had better get passionate again.

But the Republicans, with only a few exceptions, have rendered themselves irrelevant

What do the Easter Bunny, the Lucky Charms Leprechaun, and a GOP "Health Care" Bill have in common?

tax cuts, tax credits and tort reform. Let's score it and see how it bends the cost curve.

HR3830 - The GOP does not want government interfering with your health.

I don't think you quite understand. The GOP does not want government interfering with health care profits. That's what they get the big lobbyist bucks for.

"Minority Leader John Boehner (R., Ohio) said Monday that the plan wouldn't seek to prevent health-insurance companies from denying sick people insurance . . . "

When republicans utter the phrase "the American people", who are they referring to?

For all of you who claim that Big Gov in health care will drive up costs, here is a list comparing health care costs as a % of national gdp of countries in Europe, as well as CAN, AUS, JPN and the US. All countries on the list, except the US, have heavy Government involvement in health care/insurance industry, in some of them (Scandinavia) the Government have completely taken over.

AUS 8.7
BEL 9.5
CAN 10
DEN 9.5
FIN 7.6
FRA 11.1
GER 10.4
ISL 9.3
ITA 9
JPN 7.9
NLD 9.3
NOR 8.7
SWE 8.9
CHE 11.3
UK 8.4

US 15.3

Source: http://www.who.int/countries/en/. All number s are from 2006

So whats your arguments against Big Gov in health care again?

With the drop in our GDP, largest in U.S. history under BUSH... Healthcare cost is now at 18% of GDP...

It was 5% of GDP prior to reagan... so it growing rapidly.

And per worker our GDP is higher than most countries since we have a longer work week, lower wages and 90% less paid vacations

The GOP is a focus-group driven party. What they're doing is essentially writing a "Bill" that will on the surface appeal to a large part of the populace. But does very little, if anything, to actually address the
thorniest issues. It's just more of kick the can down the road, something Republicans are masters at.

Not to mention that the GOP is very happy that the Democrats have done all the heavy lifting, so they can now jump in and pick off what they want. Sort of like parasites....

Had the GOP not torpedo'd the effort 16 years ago - just think how much better off our deficit would be...not that the $4 Trillion in war spending wouldn't have still happened under Bush, but a lot more American lives would have been saved.

GOP - Good for Nothing.

Even calling the GOP "plan" a "Bill" gives it a legislative credence it doesn't deserve.

You're dodging. Do you favor big government telling the states what to do about health care or not?

------------------------------------------

Is it big govt? No. Dept of Education is Big Government. Dept of Homeland Security is Big Government.

There is no new department created to impose restrictions on states. The purpose of removing the state requirement ENCOURAGES interstate commerce. That is listed as a Government function in the Constitution.

You said, specifically:

"Easiest way is to obliterate those requirements and set national minimums. Done."

You would be taking the issue away from states and giving control (national minimums) to the federal government. Someone, some government agency, would have to reform - and, consequently, enforce those reforms - on the Insurance industry, since you would have the power removed from the states.

Do you favor big government taking over health insurance from the states?

You can't have across-state-lines purchasing AND not have some kind of federal regulations. So, yes, a 'minimum" government participation would be necessary.

I am saying it is not "Big Government" to set national minimums for insurance. And yes they would be required to intervene, but that is allowed through the 10th Amendment.

This is an attempt to de reg.

The only protection has been from the States.. How do you know that a company selling insurance in your state even has a provider list or the cash to pay claims? And who do you complain to when the insurance company does not pay?

Remember when the States tried to regulate subprime lenders way back in 2002 ... The repugs blocked that. Here we go again!

Now we are trying to create a Financial consummer protection agency to do what the Bush Admin blocked the states from doing with subprime lenders.. and the repugs are against doing that also wanting more of the same.

Regards

You would think that BC/BS, Humana, UHC and AETNA are not in every state!

You meet the requirments , you get to sell insurance in a state..just requires registration.

Regards
.

Regards

They never learn
