The Democratic Party made a serious mistake in permitting Sen. Lieberman to retain his leadership positions following the election last November. The expectation that his loyalty could be purchased with a committee chairmanship was foolish and ill-advised. I place absolutely no credence in the assurances reportedly issued by Sen. Reid.

“Maybe he’s talking tough to get the public option watered down or he’s trying to get some stuff for himself on other topics or on other sections of the legislation,” the source added. “He’s basically trying to be a senator.”

Well, he's doing a crappy job. He's acting much more like a corporate lobbyist, in public.

Personally I boiled down my own fundamental take on US health care reform this way-

NO NATION THAT PROFESSES TO BE CIVIL OR MORAL WOULD NOT AT LEAST PROVIDE FOR BASIC HEALTH CARE FOR ALL OF IT'S CITIZENS

Why the US is so far behind in recognizing that reality puzzles me? All I can think of is that we are a young nation- still growing up?

Also our new young President is on the line here. He had better get passionate again.

Dr Rick,we are a young nation here in Canada, yet we have had universal health care for decades.I think special interests and the glacial pace your government moves are the main factors.

You can narrow that down to the Senate quite easily. The concept and purpose of the Senate is nothing but a tool to keep the wealthy in control of the democratic process. The Senate should be integrated with the House to dilute it's power.

Could it be a secret non-compete agreement? Maybe Unicare got complete control of another market that BCBS was involved in?

another story on the main page says joe never said any such thing.
another example of the media trying to predict the news rather than just report it?

They have everyone sitting at desks writing stories, and no one in the field getting facts.

If a reporter got the story wrong 20 years ago, he/she lost credibility and maybe the job.

While I am all for progress, and do not pine for the 50's like our republican counterparts, I do miss honesty and integrity in the news business.

The old daily deadline has been reduced to a minute by minute competition between the cable news outlets. Fact checking isn't a luxury they can afford anymore. Video makes it a little harder for politicians to backpedal though. Wasn't there video to support "both" of LIEberman's positions?

Why wouldn't he support it?! The most optimistic Public Option plan from the House will cover only 2% of the population while mandating that 100% buy some form of coverage.

The bil in its current form will be a massive windfall for his clients, the Insurance Industry. Never in his wildest dreams did he imagine a Democratic Congres with 60 votes in the Senate, a Supermajority in the House and 70% public backing would produce something so insipid.

Watch the Progressives stay home for today's elections.

Single Payer Now. Medicare-for-all.

From www.businesscoalition.net

Medicare-for-all is not socialized medicine, as are the VA, Bethesda Naval Hospital and other armed forces health care systems. Medicare-for-all is a single payer system like today's Medicare, without wait times or rationing. You go to the same hospital and see the same physicians as you did before, or go to new ones if you choose. The doctors remain private and are paid under today's guaranteed, fee-for-service programs, thus eliminating bad debt and cost shifting.

It's simple: you get sick, you get care, and the caregiver gets paid. Usually within 15 days. There are no pre-existing diseases or exclusions, or cherry-picking or lemon drops. We'll fold in Medicaid and other state healthcare services, and eliminate the needless ER visits as well.

Any of the current non-profit insurance companies can competitively bid on the management of the system (as they now do for Medicare in all of our states). The current bureaucracy needed to support the private insurance system consumes roughly 31% of health care dollars to cover non-healthcare administration costs (marketing, broker commissions, high executive salaries, high lobbying and campaign contribution expenses, gatekeepers that deny care, actuarial costs, and high shareholder profits). All of these unnecessary costs are added to the system costs and passed on to employers. -- They will be gone. –
