Kirstie Alley

LOS ANGELES — Kirstie Alley is going to star in a new A&E reality "docu-series" about her life as a single mom and her efforts to lose weight. The network has ordered 10 half-hour episodes of the untitled series from "American Idol" producer FremantleMedia North America. The show will follow the actress at home with her teenage children, at work and as she launches a new weight-loss program.

The 58-year-old Alley, who starred in the sitcoms "Veronica's Closet" and "Cheers," appeared in the 2005 Showtime comedy series "Fat Actress." She played a version of herself coping with Hollywood's fixation on thinness.

She has also been a spokeswoman for the Jenny Craig diet program.

The A&E series is to air next year.

A&E is a joint venture of Hearst Corp., The Walt Disney Co. and General Electric Co.'s NBC Universal.

This is what happens when people transition from being "working actors" to "Reality TV star." The sickest part is that ad agency dollars will now feed those two unlucky children. It's blood money so smile for the camera, kiddies!

I wish Kirstie well. Those of us who have had a lifelong battle with weight often find every day challenging beyond belief. Perhaps taking on this challenge in front of the cameras will provide more accountability for her to lose the weight and keep it off. It will give her more energy and a better sense of self-worth. She's a beautiful woman and this may help her outside catch up to her insides.

Good luck, Kirstie! I sincerely hope you get it right this time. As someone
who has also had a lifelong struggle with weight here's
one simple, but important tip for all of us: GET RID OF THE SUGAR! ALL sugar, especially
anything with high fructose CORN syrup. It's made a HUGE difference in my life, and I'm finally
feeling better, losing weight (slowly) and consistently making healthier food choices.

I'd still throw a grappling hook on to her and climb on up!

58? I thought she was 48. Is that a typo?

She looked so much better with dark hair. That blond look is just washed out and ages her terribly.

i totally agree. the blonde thing is really unattractive for her and geeze, it draws more attention
to her which, with the additional weight gain, brings more scrutiny...

Well, reality shows certainly worked out well for the Gosselins, the Hogans, and Anna Nichole. What could go wrong?

Kudos to you Kirstie for giving it another try - I am struggling also and have been taught to look at it as a food plan for life rather than diet. It will work this time - the hard part is maintenance. I can't wait to see your show.

Wassa matter, Kirstie? Scientology not able to help ya with that eating disorder?

Well, it is a way for you to pay the bills, but yo-yo dieting isn't supposed to be healthful.
09:21 AM on 11/04/2009
why go after someone who struggles with their weight about their beliefs? it's scary to know there are people out there like you and the other's who make fun of someone's belief - either encourage her or bash her about her weight gain but don't bash her on her beliefs.

Oh, excuse me. I thought Scientology was the cure for all of humankind's ills.

It is the core of Scientology that it is supposed to help one with all life's woes. Clearly it did not help her with her marriage, her weight gain, or even with her Hollywood star status because one would be hard pressed to find a blockbuster success with her in it.

If Kirtsie doesn't want critiqued on her religious choices she shouldn't promote Scientology, which believes in alien beings on earth....and is 'out there' in its belief system.

Fair Game.

Hmmm....I thought Scientology made everyone perfect vassals for Xenu - maybe they should enlist her in the SeaOrg and put her out to sea for a couple of months of hard labor. That'd drop the weight quick!

If somebody mentions Xenu on the show, will they cut the footage out?

Her finest moment since Cheers was in the Scientology orientation video:

Be sure to stay tuned 'til the end: "You can also dive off a bridge or blow your brains out."
